7 Days to Die Guide for Beginners

Is it too soon to die on day one?

It's not easy to start a game that is as old as 7DYD but constantly changing. If you're just getting into the game and are looking for some tips, then be sure to read our 7 Days to Die guide for beginners.

Best 7 Days to Die Tips for Beginners

1. Your base should be far from your home

You choose a nice house, a church, or a store to bunker in; you clear the zombies out and make it your home. This is great, but don't stay there for the seventh night. The zombies will be relentless, and they will destroy walls and break furniture to get to you, and you can't hide.

Pick a location far enough away from the house to avoid the zombies spawning in your front yard and build your fortress. Wooden spikes and arrows work well on those first waves, but you will need to upgrade the longer you play.

2. Choose your perks carefully

You will gain a limited number of skill points at the beginning, so it's very important that you consider how you will be playing the game. If you want to go out looting, then you definitely need to put points into Lucky Looter. If you will be gathering materials, go for Miner 69'er.

No matter which strategy you go for, I recommend everyone invest in at least some levels of Pack Mule. This helps you avoid being encumbered, especially if you are outside in the middle of the night.

3. Build Vehicles ASAP

There are two reasons why you need vehicles quickly in 7DTD. First, you won't have an infinite amount of resources and loot where you are staying, so you will probably need to travel far. The second reason is the storage. Even if you have Pack Mule, somehow, it's never enough.

Bicycles have a good speed, but they reduce your stamina and have very limited storage space. Mini bikes are perfect; they have a lot of storage space, and you only use fuel, not stamina. Cars are a good option if you are specifically going on a looting expedition for a lot of space. It's also hilarious being a passenger in the car since you can hear its Formula 1 sound effects while the driver can't.

4. Complete quests for the Traders

You should always have at least one person doing quests for the Traders. Once you complete Tier 1 quests, the trader will give you Tier 2, etc. By completing a higher Tier quest you also get more Duke's tokens as well as more loot in that certain Place of Interest.

This is a great tactic early on for collecting things like weapons, forges, water filters, etc. You also gain XP by completing quests, and with more XP, you get more Skill Points to use.

5. Purchase items from the Traders

Duke's tokens can be used to purchase items that you need and can't find in the game. One important purchase at the beginning is definitely a water filter for rain collectors (as many as you can) since water is very scarce in the game.

All Trader stores reset after every seventh night, so try to visit them as soon as possible to see if they have some good items, weapons, or books.
