Scavenging for supplies and resources like Wood and Ores are essential to the 7 Days To Die gameplay. Unlike Wood, which can be directly harvested from the source or scavenged, Wood Logs need to be crafted. Open the Crafting menu by pressing Tab on your keyboard. In the search window, type Wood Log to bring up the item (see the above image for reference). If you have 10 Wood in your inventory, hit the Craft button to create one Wood Log in two seconds. You can acquire wood by chopping down shrubs and trees, reclaiming it from tables and chairs, or scavenging for loot in the world.

Wood Log is a niche item with limited uses; for instance, it is one of the items required to craft a Forge (see image above). A Forge is a workstation you can use to create powerful weapons, tools, ammo, armor, and other items. Wood Log can also be used as an efficient combustible fuel in campfires as it burns for much longer than regular Wood or Plank (i.e., for 8 minutes 20 seconds).
