Useful Items to Survive the Doors Outdoors Level

Before you enter the level, you'll encounter the shop. If you don't have money to waste, you can still find all shop items (and more) in a run, you'll just have to explore a lot. The most useful item which you can buy in the shop is the Flashlight.

How to Find Sheers in Doors the Outdoors

Sheers are especially useful since they can cut off vines off chests and some secret passages to get better loot (usually a lot of Gold, but also Lotus Petals and Keys). You'll most likely find them in an area right outside the Greenhouse, so you don't have to buy them at the start. They can break, so make sure to look around for tall and thin closets. You can't hide in these, but they will always contain more Sheers.

On another note, if you see a Lantern lighting an area (picnic tables, tunnel, etc.), you can pick it up. It's a great substitute for when you don't have a Flashlight.

Another two items that can help you deal with story progression Entities are the Compass and the Vitamins. If you want to know more about them, scroll down to the Entities section, as I won't spoil it here yet.

All the Doors Outdoors Entities

There are plenty of new and old creatures roaming the outside in Doors, so it can be tricky figuring them out. If you want to avoid and survive all the Outdoors Entities, then check our table below for their information.

Entity NameBehaviorHow to Avoid

The Snare Trap in the Outdoors
The Snare
- Spawns both on grass and paths.
- Mildly damages you and stuns you for a few seconds.
- When walking, try to keep an eye out for a cluster of holes.
- Try not to go on the grass if the Groundskeeper is around, as you might get trapped and then killed for trespassing.
Doors the Outdoors Monument
The Monument
- There are plenty of monuments across maps, but not all are the Monument entity.
- They move while you are looking away, Weeping Angel style.
- If you don't see them and they catch up to you, it is an instant death.
- The best tip is to listen. If you hear footsteps behind you, swiftly turn around. They can't move if you are looking at them.
- It won't follow you for long, so just try to get into a new area as fast as possible before getting killed.
How to survive the Mandrake in DOORS
The Mandrake
- Fly at you screaming
- They don't cause damage, but if you don't take care of them quickly, you will drop dead.
- Grab them from the air and return them back to their hole.
- Since this is always on grass, be careful when doing it around the Groundskeeper, or he will kill you himself.
- The Groundskeeper will also kill the Mandrake, but you have to hope it will happen before you drop dead from the screaming.
The Surge Entity in Doors
The Surge
- Similar to entities inside, The Surge will come at you and if you aren't safe inside, it will quickly damage and kill you. It isn't an instant death, but you don't have long to go to a safe area before you drop dead.
- If the sky flashes green, then the Surge is coming,
- You can hear it approaching by a louder and louder scream.
- The safest place to hide from the Surge is the Closet. You can find plenty of them in every area.
- Houses are also good hiding places, as the Surge can't get in.
Doors the Outdoors Groundskeeper
The Groundskeeper
- Just doing his job
- If you see a Shed with a Scythe next to it, then he can spawn in this area.
- His keys jingle, so you can usually know he is present even before you see him.
- If you step on the grass briefly in front of him, he will stare you down and warn you.
- However, if you do keep standing on the grass, he will cut you down as well.
- So long as he isn't looking at you, you can walk all over the grass. Wait until he is around a corner or looking away to do so.
- If he is coming towards you, you can walk past him, he won't get aggressive unless you are on grass.
- If you do get him angry, the Groundskeeper can get a bit buggy, so try to run into a house or through gates to survive. If there are other people with you, you can also try running past them. Sacrificing your team is sometimes acceptable. Keep in mind that he is very fast and will catch you up before long.
Dead Eyestalk in the Outdoors
Eyestalk
- Appears once you're half way done with the subfloor.
- You can see various trees marked with eyes as you approach it.
- The area where the Eyestalk spawns is large and open, with a bunch of trees cut up on the ground.
- Once you go through and reach the gate on the other end, the Eyestalk will spawn in a cutscene.
- Once the cutscene ends, run!
- At this point, it is extremely useful to have a Flashlight so that you can assess if you are going the right way.
- Using Vitamins here would be useful as well to get ahead, since they give you a speed boost.
- There are snares in areas with brick paths, so watch out.
- As soon as you are over the cliff, the Eyestalk won't be a worry anymore since the Groundskeeper will kill it.
Bramble in the Outdoor Maze
Bramble
- Roams around the Maze in the last section of the floor.
- Relatively slow
- If the lights are off it can't see you
- If the lights are on and it spots you moving, it will send out sharp vines your way to kill you.
- Can spawn from a Lamppost if you get too far away from it.
- You can hear the Bramble stomping around the area. If the sound is approaching you, hide in a Closet until he moves away.
- Whenever Bramble's light is on, stop moving. It will walk past you without a care.
- If you do start getting hit, stop moving. He will take a chunk of your health but he won't one-shot you.

How to Get the Lotus in Doors the Great Outdoors

The Lotus is a revival mechanic in Doors the Outdoors subfloor, and here is how you can activate it. For starters, you have to get a total of eight Lotus petals. There are multiple places where you can find them:

  • In or on top of Cabinets
  • In vine covered Chests (you need Sheers to cut them off)
  • In the secret are in tunnels (use Sheers to open the path, then open the two vine covered Chests)
  • In Cabins
  • In locked Mausoleums at Graveyard sections (you need a Key to unlock it).

While gold, coins and Items can only be picked up by one person each, Lotus Petals can be picked up by everyone. So if you unlock a Mausoleum, every single person on your team can pick up a Lotus Petal from it.

After the chase with the Eyestalk and more exploration, you will encounter an NPC called Grampy (the Groundskeeper's Dad). If you've collected all petals, you can talk to him and he will give you a Lotus here. If you die, you can respawn and continue the run from wherever you have planted it.

How to find a Key in the Outdoors

Keys are usually found on top of or inside Cabinets. From my experience, usually there is at least one Key in the area before or after the graveyard section. However, it can happen that you can't find them nearby. You can't backtrack far, sadly, so if you find a Key later on, keep it in the hopes of stumbling upon another Graveyard section.

How to Escape the Maze in Doors the Outdoors

There is no Groundskeeper to help or kill you in this section, only yourself. The Compass is a very useful tool here to get around the right path while avoiding the Bramble. As mentioned above, so long as you don't move while the light is on, the Bramble will not damage you.

The goal here is to activate three guillotines and cut off the vines, before finding the exit and escaping the maze. You will need a source of light here, either a Flashlight or a Lantern. There are multiple Lanterns in the area around Grampy, so you can pick one up from there. If you've succeeded, a cutscene will play with the Groundskeeper attacking and taking care of Bramble, while you jump down into the Sewers.
