Dicehead reigned over the leaderboard for weeks when Megabonk first came out, and although the meta has shifted a little, Dicehead remains as broken as ever. If you have finally unlocked the character (it’s a grind and a half), these are the best Dicehead builds that you should try to get the best out of the gambler.
Best Dicehead Builds in Megabonk
Dicehead is a versatile character and can be built in a few different ways. A crit-based build is the obvious and optimal choice (Build 1), but you can easily pivot to a different build (Build 2 and 3) if you want to try something different or just don’t get the right items for a crit-based build.
Build 1 - Megacrit
If you see the Luck and Precision Tome early, this is the build to go for. It’ll snowball quickly, and you’ll be doing over-crit and Megacrits by the time you reach mid-game.
Weapons | Tomes | Items |
---|---|---|
Dice Revolver Katana Aura/Lightning Staff | Luck Tome Precision Tome Damage Tome Quantity Tome | Moldy Cheese Clover Time Bracelet Forbidden Juice Gym Sauce Grandma’s Secret Tonic Giant Fork Demonic Blade Demonic Soul Backpack Demonic Blade Battery |
Why It Works: Dice, Katana, and Revolver all scale with Damage, Precision, and Quantity. Aura or Lightning Staff, whichever you choose, also has multi-hit attacks, which increase Crit Chance too. Dice will randomly increase its own Crit Chance, and the Luck Tome will make sure that it happens more often.
Getting Forbidden Juice early is also important here because you need that flat Crit Chance boost. Since Dice’s passive Crit Chance scaling has no ceiling, get as many Crit Chance and Crit Damage boosting items as you can get. All these will snowball as you start dealing Overcrit and Megacrit with your Dice, Revolver, and Katana.
Aura or Lightning Staff will take care of the mobs while your Crit-based weapons one-shot Elites and Bosses.

Build 2 - Projectile DPS
This is the build to pivot to if you don’t see any crit-based items and the Precision Tome early. It uses similar weapons, but focuses on pure DPS instead of Crits.
Weapons | Tomes | Items |
---|---|---|
Dice Revolver Katana Wireless Dagger | Damage Tome Quantity Tome Cooldown Tome XP Tome | Backpack Gym Sauce Battery Boss Buster Beefy Ring Demonic Soul Kevin Cactus Chonkplate Overpowered Lamp Beer Anvil Slutty Cannon |
Why It Works: With the XP Tome speeding up your farming and scaling, you’ll be constantly improving your DPS whether you upgrade Tomes or focus on Weapons. Prioritize Tomes early on and then start upgrading your weapons. If you get an Anvil early, prioritize upgrading weapons in that case.
You’ll still be doing some Crit Damage due to the default crit-abilities of Dice, Revolver, and Katana, but it’s not the core focus of this build. That’s why the Items column is full of damage boosting items, and the unique Kevin x Cactus combo. Chonkplate’s Lifesteal and Overheal will keep you safe while the Cactus’s thorns further boost your DPS as a fifth weapon.
This build still benefits from Dicehead’s and Dice’s passive, but it doesn’t completely rely on it. You feel a lot more in control of this build.
Build 3 - XP Scaling
If there’s no “skill issue,” try this Dicehead build for a leaderboard run. Warning: this might crash your PC.
Weapons | Tomes | Items |
---|---|---|
Dice Katana Wireless Dagger Aura/Aegis | XP Tome Luck Tome Quantity Tome Cooldown Tome | Anvil Chonkplate Sucky Magnet Skuleg Demonic Soul Kevin Mirror Moldy Cheese Overpowered Lamp Feathers Demonic Blood Battery Spicy Meatball Big Bonk Clover Time Bracelet |
Why It Works: While it’s not exactly the ‘Holy Trinity’ build, its core goal is similar to it. You just have to rely on Items and Greed Shrines to get the difficulty up, so you can save a Tome spot for Quantity.
More XP means you’re scaling quicker and kicking in both of Dicehead’s passives more often. Luck Tome makes sure you’re getting the best stat rerolls from Dice and the best upgrade offers and items from all sources.
If you choose the right upgrades (prioritize tomes), you’ll have projectiles that are strong enough to one-shot Stage 3 mobs while you’re still on Stage 2.
Anvil will make your weapons scaling so much easier, but it’s not essential to the success of this build. You just have to choose the right upgrades (Damage, Projectile Count). If you do get crit-items early, upgrade Crit Chance and Crit Damage stats for Katana and Dice every chance you get.

Dicehead Starter Weapon and Passive
Dicehead’s starter weapon is the Dice, a mid-range weapon that deals between 1 and 6 damage and permanently increases its own Crit Chance every time it rolls a six.
The randomness can cause problems early, but after a few upgrades, the Dice turns into a game-breaking weapon, scaling with damage, crit chance, crit damage, projectile quantity, and attack speed.
Strengths | Weaknesses | Passive |
---|---|---|
Broken Weapon: Once you have enough projectiles, Dice will be buffing random stats with every attack and constantly increasing Crit Chance. Late-Game Scaling: The longer Dicehead survives, the stronger he becomes because of his passives. Strong Synergy with XP & Luck: One of the best characters for the Holy Trinity build, provided you have the skill to handle the extra difficulty. | RNG-Reliant: Heavily reliant on RNG. There’s an equal chance of you getting the worst possible upgrades. Fragile: Low base health pool. You must add some defensive items to increase survivability. | Dicehead: Permanently upgrade a random stat every time you level up. Dice: Rolling a 6 permanently increases the Dice’s Crit Chance. |
Megabonk Dicehead FAQs
Dicehead is one of the hardest characters to unlock in Megabonk. You must complete 100 quests and get the Dice weapon to unlock Dicehead as a playable character.
The Dice is Dicehead’s signature weapon, and you can unlock it by unlocking the Luck Tome and then upgrading it to Level 12 during a run. The Luck Tome is unlocked after it is dropped by an enemy during a run (0.01% chance).
No, if you roll a 6 with the Dice, it will only increase the Crit Chance of the Dice and not your other weapons. Before the 1.0.4 patch, the buff applied to all weapons, but it was later identified as a bug and fixed, which nerfed Dicehead a little.
