Epic Games has just revealed the studio’s latest addition to the Fortnite ecosystem: Sidekicks! These adorable little critters will be your faithful companions across all Fortnite experiences, including the classic Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, and any other experience within the Fortnite client. If there’s anything you’re unsure about when it comes to Fortnite pets, we’ve got you covered. Read on to learn how to unlock Peels, what Sidekick Points are, and much more.
What are Fortnite Sidekicks?
Fortnite Sidekicks are in-game pets that will follow you wherever you go. It's important to note that these little pals are a cosmetic item only. They don't have any gameplay mechanics, nor will they influence your gameplay in any way (sorry, no gameplay advantage this time around). They exist only to be cute and enhance your experience and enjoyment while playing.
Are there Sidekick Emotes in Fortnite
Yes, Fortnite Sidekicks will have their own special Sidekick Emotes! Not only will you be able to interact with them through these emotes, but they’ll also interact with the world around you on their own. They’ll react dynamically to what’s happening around them, and we can’t wait to see how this works in practice.
Can You Change the Name of Your Fortnite Pet?
Yes, you can! After naming your Sidekick for the first time, you can change its name for free whenever you want. You’re probably wondering, “How do I change the name of my Fortnite pet?” It’s actually quite simple, just follow these few easy steps.
- Open your Locker in Fortnite.
- Look for the Sidekick you want to rename, then select it.
- Open the Menu by clicking on the three dots icon.
- Select the Rename option.
- Type in any name you like or click the Randomize Name button to have a bit of fun with random names.
- Once done, click Save, and your Fortnite Pet will be renamed.
Fortnite Sidekick Customization - How to Customize Your Pet
Your Fortnite Sidekicks can be customized as well. Once you obtain a Sidekick, either by purchasing it or through other means, you’ll be able to give it an even more unique appearance through customization. Here’s how to do it:
- Obtain a Sidekick.
- Head to the Locker.
- On the left, select the Sidekick section.
- Find and select a Sidekick you wish to customize.
- You’ll be presented with a selection of Appearance options. Choose whichever ones you like for each category.
- Once you’re 100% sure you’re satisfied with the look, click NEXT STEP, then press and hold LOCK-IN to confirm your choices.
Can You Change Your Sidekick Appearance in Fortnite?
Unfortunately, no, you can’t change your pet’s appearance in Fortnite. Once you customize it for the first time, that look becomes locked-in and permanent. The only way to change the appearance of that same Sidekick is to buy it again (you can purchase the same Sidekick multiple times) and then give the new copy a different look.
In this way, you’ll have two versions of the same Sidekick, each with a different customized look, both permanently locked to that appearance. Note that if you purchase another copy of the same Sidekick and try to give it the exact same look, you won’t be able to complete the customization process, as the NEXT STEP button will be greyed out, preventing you from having two identical copies.
How to Get Peels Fortnite Pet
Peels will be the very first Sidekick in Fortnite. Peels will become available starting November 1st, unlockable through the current season's Battle Pass. All you need to do is play the game and progress through the battle pass, and you will eventually unlock Peels.

Sidekick Pricing: How Much Do Sidekicks Cost?
As we mentioned earlier, the first Sidekick, Peely, will be unlockable simply by playing via the Battle Pass starting November 1st. However, new Sidekicks will be added on November 7th. Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor are the first three to arrive, and they’ll be available for purchase through the official Fortnite Item Shop. Here are their prices:
- Lil' Raptor Sidekick - 1200 V-Bucks + Free Unlockable Styles
- Spike - 1200 V-Bucks
- Flopsticks - 1500 V-Bucks
- Cuddle Team Jr. - 1500 V-Bucks
- Bonesy - Free reward granted to players who own the Bonesy Back Bling.
As you can see from the list, the pricing is not exactly generous: each Sidekick costs around $10 to $15, and fans are not happy about it. Many players have already pointed out that Sidekicks cost more than the original skins they’re based on. For example, Flopsticks costs 1,500 V-Bucks, while the Fishstick skin costs 1,200 V-Bucks. Are you planning on spending V-Bucks on these Fortnite pets?
Fortnite Sidekick FAQ

You can earn Fortnite Sidekick Points simply by playing the game with your pets equipped. Just equip any Sidekick, play normally, and you’ll earn SP passively over time.
Yes, you can. In fact, you will need to if you want to give a Sidekick a new look because you can not change the one you already own.
Yes, there will be! More Sidekicks are coming to the Fortnite Item Shop on November 7, including Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor. Epic has also teased a Sidekick “for all the cat people out there,” which will arrive later this year.
You can interact with them through Sidekick Emotes, but you can’t pet them - at least not for now.
No, you don’t have control over your Sidekicks. They follow you on their own - you can’t decide where they go. But they’ll always stay right by your side.
If the NEXT STEP button is greyed out, it means you already own that Sidekick with that exact appearance, which is why you can’t proceed with the customization process.
