To research Technology, you will need Science, one of the main resources in Humankind. Each Technology requires a certain amount of Science and this resource will be applied automatically. This means that you can speed up Research by acquiring more Science. Moreover, any additional Science will be stored and carried over when one Research is finished or if you cross over to another era.

Technology is represented in a tech tree. Some Technologies are linked to multiple prerequisites but it is not required to research all of them beforehand. Each Technology will offer the empire a benefit that can provide new units, structures, infrastructures, and more. Choosing which Technology to research will be crucial as with each one you research, additional Technologies will cost more Science.
