With the announcement of Valkyrie Elysium, you may be assuming that the game is an entirely new IP. The Valkyrie games are all part of a longing running Square Enix franchise that started in the late 90s. While the history isn't packed like Final Fantasy's is, it's still interesting to look at how it got started.
The first Valkyrie game was Valkyrie Profile which was released on PlayStation in 1999. By 2006, the game had a sequel called Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria on the PlayStation 2. Afterward, the series moved to handheld gaming for its third release Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume on the Nintendo DS, in 2009.

The latest game is Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin, a mobile title released only in Japan in 2016. While the games have stayed mostly niche, they have been released in English and made a small fanbase.
Each of the games revolves around a different Valkyrie or plot points that are heavily inspired by Norse Mythology. These games are longer RPGs that all take dozens of hours to complete and have deep stories.
If you want to try out Valkryie Profile, then you buy the first game on the Google Play store.
