Chapter 13: Time to Say Goodbye Battle Guide – Triangle Strategy

Please...I just want to say goodbye to this chapter.

So, you’ve chosen one of the more arguably difficult plans in Chapter 15: Roland’s. His plan is to sneak into the castle undetected and defeat the Aesfrosti commanders before they can escape. But you get found out, and now Thalas and Erika are after your head. Here’s how to say goodbye…to the Aesfrost twins, that is.

The difficulty of this battle is determined by one thing: did you buy Oil Jugs from a merchant in any of the previous chapters? Because if you have, then you're in luck. You can deal extra damage to Thalas’ soldiers by throwing oil onto the bridges and lighting them on fire using a fire pellet or Frederica’s spells. Enemies will have no choice but to pass through them, after all.

But here’s the fun part: enemies won’t pass through them if they’re on fire and the exit is blocked by an immovable tank, like Erador and Julio, with four TPs stacked. By blocking off the onslaught of enemy units from Thalas’ side, you can focus on Erika and her goons.

But if you don’t have oil—that’s perfectly fine! You can use the same strategy above, though your tanks might need a defense buff together with continuous heals. This block strategy will also not last long without oil, since Thalas has hawk knights who can just jump over. You have to defeat Erika’s goons (or at least most of them) before you’re overwhelmed.

Alternatively, just block one bridge using Erador and make him provoke hawk knights and archers. This way, enemies can only approach you from one side of the ship.

First things’ first: leave Thalas and Erika alone. Kill everything else first (especially those nasty mages), since they’re faster and deal more damage. In fact, as long as you stay out of Thalas’ range, he won’t cast any spells. Erika throws oil every three or so turns and sets it on fire. But as long as one of her allies is on them, she won’t. And if you're alone on the oil puddle, just move away.

Next: remember to use the Fleet-footed Quietus on your first turn. Erika will automatically enter in turn two, but Fleet-footed will allow you to set things up before she arrives. This includes blocking the ship’s bridges and getting units on both sides close to her location.

You can also use Jens and Rudolph to help you set traps early on. However, note that you can’t set traps on an occupied tile.

To avoid becoming overwhelmed, consider units that halt enemy movement, such as:

  • Rudolph and Anna (can inflict sleep)
  • Groma and Lionel (can inflict provoke)
  • Hughette (can immobilize an enemy)

Then, just quickly kill the enemies! Use magic on the knights and physical attacks on the mages. Take advantage of units such as Benedict and Medica who can grant allies another turn. Anna can be placed on the opposite side of an ally unit for two follow-up attacks.
