How to beat Tropic Woods in Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Subdue the tree and its goatee!

Tropic Woods is the second main boss in Kirby and the Forgotten Land—a very cranky palm tree that terrorizes Everbay Coast. Beating it is the only thing you have to do to clear The Tropical Terror stage and open the game to the third area of exploration.

When you land in the Tropical Terror stage and walk down a bit, you'll see a Maxim Tomato and three Copy Abilities you can choose from before you face the boss. If you've found all Blueprints so far and upgraded your Copy Abilities, you can choose either Clutter Needle, Chakram Cutter, or Volcano Fire—or the regular, less powerful versions, Needle, Cutter, or Fire.

You'll be facing a tree, and the tree will burn and slowly take damage for as long as it's set aflame. This is a great reason to choose the powerful Fire or Volcano Fire Copy Ability. If you want a challenge, go for the other choices or go with no Copy Ability at all to complete the optional missions for this stage.

Once the fight begins, Tropics Woods will drop large coconuts that will take root in the ground. You can inhale these and shoot them back to do good damage from a distance. You can also have Kirby inhale the stars that appear in the trails of the air puffs Tropic Woods will blow at you. Dodge these as you aim carefully.

Tropic Woods ramps it up for phase two

When you deplete half of Tropic Woods' health, phase two will begin. The tree will blow a wide swath of air for you to jump over or dodge. Inhale the stars left by air swath, and now you'll have to mind the protective fence that pops up in front of Tropic Woods' face. Aim for the sides when the fence is up.

The optional missions of the stage include:

  • Destroying Tropic Woods' roots
  • Clearing the stage within two minutes
  • Clearing the stage without a Copy Ability
  • Beating the boss without taking any damage

You can easily destroy the roots by targeting them along with the boss, as well as honing your aim and dodging abilities to beat it without a Copy Ability. Beating Tropic Woods without taking any damage will require practice, multiple attempts, and probably a little bit of luck.

Remember to save movement time by cutting down on Kirby's hovering. Press B to release a puff of air, making Kirby jump and move as quickly as he can while you focus on inhaling and shooting. When you beat Tropic Woods, you'll get the Noble Ranger Blueprint to take on the next world of Kirby and the Forgotten Land!
