How to dive in MLB: The Show 22

Make a diving catch!

When fielding in MLB: The Show 22, you can dive to make spectacular catches on defense. To dive, press R2 (PlayStation), RT (Xbox), or ZR (Nintendo Switch).

The opportunity to dive for a ball usually does not happen very often, but when it does, if you have the Catch Position Indicator on, the ball position will be highlighted bright red. If your player is not diving when you press the button, you may have to check your settings to see if you have any fielding controls on Auto.

To check your fielding controls, go to Settings, scroll to Fielding, and check the following options.

  • Fielding Decision — Assist
  • Throwing Decision — Off
  • Auto INF Dive Reaction — Off

If you are playing on a lower difficulty, most of the options will need to be changed to manually dive, but higher difficulties have the options already turned off. Turning off Auto INF Dive Reaction makes it so you must dive on infield plays, which can be pretty difficult. But if you want to pull off all the highlight plays yourself, turning it off is the way to go.

During online play, diving is done manually unless both players have the settings changed for the match. If you are playing ranked, the settings are locked in to dive manually.
