Runeterra Open Beta Release Date

Legends of Runeterra's open beta will start on January 24th, 2020! You don't need to do anything special, everyone will be able to play open beta on the day of the release. This is a change, because they were originally going to continue with the small events that only lasted for a week or so. Now, everyone will be able to play the game and keep the progress they make. If you haven't, you should still pre-register for the game because you'll get a free Moonstruck Poro for your troubles!

What Will Be Available When Open Beta Arrives?

Let's take a look at some of the features you'll be able to play with once the game is released into beta!

Ranked Mode

Ranked is going to be live once the beta hits! There's going to be some similarities to League of Legends, you will be able to earn LP to advance your rank. You will be able to climb through divisions and climbing from Iron to Master. Once you reach a tier in ranked you will hold that until the end of the season. That means you can do some experimentation once you've reached that tier because you don't have to be worried about losing it.

New Social Panel

Riot is looking to bring the social aspect back to card games with their new Social Panel. You'll be able to challenge any of your friends to a game who are already added to your League of Legends friends list!

No Pay to Win!

A large part of what Riot is trying to do with this card game is remove the feeling of needing to buy a bunch of packs to compete. They are looking at mainly monetizing cosmetics like your board, emotes, and little guardians you can choose to represent you on the board. This is obviously a huge difference to the more popular games like MTG: Arena and Hearthstone which pretty much require you to purchase packs to stay competitive.

New Cards

Over the next 12 months they plan to bring new sets to the game from some of the regions of Runeterra! New Champions are to be brought into the game that will represent the region of the new expansions.
