How to identify a Hantu in Phasmophobia – All Evidence and Tips

Keep those lights on!

The Hantu in Phasmophobia is a Ghost that thrives off of colder temperatures. The Hantu can be fast in and out of their Hunt periods by increasing its overall speed while it's cold. Players can slow this Ghost down by keeping the lights on and ensuring the generator is on to increase the overall temperature of the investigation area. This is how to identify a Hantu in Phasmophobia.

The Hantu has Fingerprints, Ghost Orbs, and Freezing Temperatures as their unique evidence. Their ability increases their speed wherever it is colder in the investigation area. Unlike other ghosts that have two speeds when hunting, the Hantu will have its speed increased whether it sees the player or not.

Hantu Strengths and Weaknesses and what they mean in Phasmophobia

The Hantu's Strengths and Weaknesses are written in the Journal as:

  • Strength - Lower temperatures allow the Hantu to move at faster speeds.
  • Weakness - Hantus move slower in warmer areas.

Both the Strength and Weakness of the Hantu are tied to the temperature but only have an effect when the Ghost is Hunting. Most Ghosts' speeds are around 1.6 m/s when Hunting and then increase to 2.5 m/s when they spot a player. The Hantu is unique in that their speed will be the same regardless of whether they spot the player or not.

How fast can the Hantu get in Phasmophobia?

The Hantu's speed can be as slow as 1.4 m/s and as fast as 2.7 m/s. This is tied to the temperature, which starts off at 15°C (59°F) for the slowest speed and then anything below 3°C (37°F) for the fastest speeds. Players can slow this down by keeping the generator on within the investigation area, as this will raise the average temperature everywhere. Because the Hantu needs low temperatures in order to move quickly, in Nightmare difficulty investigations, the Hantu will always have Freezing Temperatures as one of the two pieces of evidence.

When attempting to look at the temperature with the Thermometer, players should keep in mind that Freezing Temperatures can appear wherever the Ghost currently is. Freezing Temperatures can stay in one area even if that Ghost is no longer in that area, meaning multiple areas can have Freezing Temperatures at once. When players are looking for the Hantu, they can tamper with the generator but will never turn it on, as this will lower its speed.
