There are more than a few Pokémon that have special evolution requirements in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Some of these evolutions may be well known to veteran players. If you are new to the series, however, it's understandable why you might be confused when your Rockruff evolved to Midnight Lycanroc, and he looks like a dark, snarling mess. Here's how to obtain Lycanroc's other form, the Midday Form.
How to get Lycanroc's Midday Form in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
The form Rockruff takes when it evolves depends on what time of day it is. If Rockruff reaches level 25 in in the morning, it evolves into Lycanroc's Midday Form. If it evolves at night, you Lycanroc will take on the Midnight Form. So, if you are looking for a particular form, train a Rockruff to around level 24, then wait for the desired time of day before having it gain the last level. There is a third form of Lycanroc, called Dusk Form, but this Form requires a special kind of Rockruff to be found.
How to tell time in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
You'll need to be able to tell the time of day in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet if you want to get a particular form of Lycanroc. To tell the time of day, open your map from the overworld by pressing Y. There will be a circle in the center of the top white bar that tells you the time of day. A blue circle with a yellow sun indicates morning, a peach circle with an orange sun indicates evening, and a purple circle with a white moon indicates night.
Time in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet rotates between these three periods on it's own schedule. time is not synched to your Nintendo Switch console.
