Veluza strikes again.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduced many new Pokémon in the Paldea region. This may leave you wondering what Veluza is weak against and how to best counter it in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

What is Veluza weak to in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Veluza is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon, a fairly common type combination. But where Veluza is different is that it focuses on physical attacks and has the stats to back that up, especially with the Adamant nature. Additionally, its Sharpness ability powers up slicing attacks, which make up most of its most powerful attacks. Here are all of Veluza's weaknesses in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

  • Electric - 2x Weak
  • Grass - 2x Weak
  • Bug - 2x Weak
  • Ghost - 2x Weak
  • Dark - 2x Weak

How to counter Veluza in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Veluza's main gimmick is its Sharpness ability to power up slicing moves. This includes Slash, Psycho Cut, Aqua Cutter, and Dark Slash. This combined with its high Attack can spell trouble for your Pokémon. It also has decent coverage, making challenging it a pain. Ultimately, we recommend a strong Dark-type Pokémon to defeat Veluza.

Its only real coverage against Dark is Final Gambit, but this also knocks itself out. Mabostiff, Hydreigon, and Kingambit are all solid choices. Not only are these Dark-types with good Attack, but they also have good bulk, so they can survive Veluza's attacks. You will want to finish Veluza off quickly; otherwise, it can quickly sweep your team.
