How to open the map wall in the South Wing in Hogwarts Legacy

In Hogwarts Legacy, the castle's South Wing has a map puzzle that can only be opened with a particular spell. Here is everything you need to know to solve the cartography puzzle and what is actually inside the room hidden behind it.

What to do at the South Wing map wall in Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts has many hidden rooms and secrets scattered around the academy castle. Unlike most early game puzzles, though, you may stumble across a map wall where none of the basic spells work on it. To open the South Wing map wall, you need the Depulso spell. The magical attack is unlocked by completing Professor Sharp's Assignment I quest, which has you acquiring a focus potion.

Once you have the spell aim your wand at the button above the map and cast Depulso at it. After hitting the button the map will automatically unfold itself, revealing a hidden corridor tucked behind the wall. Inside the secret room is a chest that gives you a cosmetic item, experience points, and a Hogwarts Legacy moth frame puzzle.

Before leaving the hideout, make sure to pick up the note that is on the right side of the room. The message reveals a second map wall puzzle on the third floor that students use to hide a supply of alcohol. Once you've opened a map wall, they will automatically stay unlocked permanently. Just walk past them again to trigger the map's folding animation.

Where to find the Depulso map wall in Hogwarts Legacy

The fastest way to find the South Wing map wall is to fast travel to the Clock Tower Courtyard Floo flame warp point. Once there, exit the small door next to the Floo flame and run across the outdoor bridge. You will now find the map on the left wall after entering the door at the end of the bridge connecting the two wings of the castle.
