All Psychic Type Pokémon Weaknesses and Counters

Psychic Type Pokémon tend to have high Special Attack and Special Defense but there are plenty of Psychic Types with very different stats. Offensively, Psychic Type Pokémon are relatively good as there aren't many Types that resist their STAB. Psychic moves deal super effective damage to two other Types, rounding out their damage potential. Psychic Pokémon are weak to three different Types and tend to be weaker on the Physical side. These are the counters and weaknesses of Psychic Type Pokémon as well as what they are strong against.

What is Psychic weak to in Pokémon?

Psychic Type Pokémon have three weaknesses and tend to have less Defense than Special Defense. This will vary for each Pokémon but the majority of them will knock out faster with a Physical move. Their weaknesses are:

• Bug - 2x
• Dark - 2x
• Ghost - 2x

Dark moves are more common to find on movesets than Ghost moves and can be used to deal with Psychic Type Pokémon more effectively most of the time.

Psychic Type moves only deal super effective damage to two other Types but have very few resisted Types as well. Most Psychic Type moves are Special but the move Psyshock will deal damage using the target's Defense stat. They are strong against:

Psychic Type Pokémon tend to have high Special Defense and are harder to take out with Special moves. Not every Pokémon will have a Dark, Ghost, or Bug move in their moveset, giving Psychic Pokémon an easy time on the field.

What are the best counters to Psychic Types in Pokémon?

The best counters to Psychic Type Pokémon are ones that resist or are immune to their STAB. Psychic moves will deal less damage to:

• Psychic - 1/2
• Steel - 1/2

Dark Type Pokémon are also immune to Psychic moves, making them the biggest direct counter to Psychic Type Pokémon. Mabostiff and Kingambit both have high Attack and are immune to Psychic moves, making them good counters to most Psychic Pokémon. Depending on the Nature of the Kingambit, they can tank most Special moves from Psychic Pokémon to deliver a lot of damage or use Sucker Punch to guarantee moving first in battle.
