The alternative history romp through murderous robots and the Soviet wilderness can leave even the most oriented players feeling a little turned around while exploring Atomic Heart. Coupled with plenty of identical rooms and facilities to loot and some secrets along the way, it would only make sense that players would like to drop a map marker or two to help find their way.
Can you use map markers in Atomic Heart?
While the map might be handy for navigating around the surprisingly large world of Atomic Heart, players are likely to be dismayed that they cannot place map markers wherever they would like. Chalk it up to Atomic Hearts' long list of confusing design choices.
Instead, it would appear that developer Mundfish had only one objective in mind when it came to marking things for players to follow, and that's the main story. Without giving too much away, there's not a whole lot to be gained by exploring aside from crafting recipes. While these are valuable, they're not like God of War: Ragnarök or Elden Ring that encourage players to explore everywhere and then aptly reward them for doing so. While there might not be a lot in the way of side content, there are the Polygon Testing Grounds to explore. Go get 'em, P-3!
