Sons of the Forest Endings, Explained – How to get the ‘secret’ ending

If I go, there will be trouble! If I stay, it will be double!

Sons of the Forest is a thrilling survival horror game with a mysterious and intriguing story. Continuing from The Forest, there is no apparent connection to the plot line the first title had previously set up — or is there? But, like the previous title, Sons of the Forest has two separate endings dictated by your choice at the finishing line and one additional secret ending!

What does the ending of Sons of the Forest mean?

When you unlock the Arm Door at the bunker on the far east side of the island in Sons of the Forest, you will find yourself in a dripstone cavern full of magma pits unlike any you have encountered. To survive fighting the demons you encounter, you'll need the Golden Armor equipped and a Cross to burn them. At the cave's end, you will finally discover the Golden Cube, which briefly transports you to another dimension. Afterward, you will wake up on the beach with a rescue helicopter waiting for you.

Choosing to board the Rescue helicopter at the end of Sons of the Forest

If you make a choice to immediately board the Rescue helicopter at the end of Sons of the Forest, your character, Kelvin, and two mysterious men will all board the helicopter and leave the island. This choice will earn you Fought Demons achievement. You will see an ending animation of characters all leaving the island while the credits start rolling. This is one of the good endings, presumably, as the characters save themselves from the island and its nightmarish inhabitants.

Choosing to return for your backpack at the end of Sons of the Forest

If you make a choice to return for your backpack at the end of Sons of the Forest, you will see the two men board the helicopter and leave without you, leaving you stranded on the island. Choosing to do this earns you the Fight Demons achievement. You will be able to continue playing the game and explore the island freely, but this is considered the game's bad ending because you won't have any more chances to leave the island.

Sons of the Forest third Secret ending and how to unlock it

There is a way to unlock the third secret ending in Sons of the Forest by befriending Virginia and making her your permanent companion along with Kelvin. Ensure they are both alive and close to you by the time you enter the metal door bunker to trigger the secret ending.

Kelvin and Virginia will run into the Golden Cube together during the secret ending. When the teleportation process starts, Virginia will begin convulsing and fall into your arms during the vision. When you wake up, choose to board the helicopter. Both Virginia and Kelvin will enter the helicopter with you. Doing this will earn you the Keep your Friends Close achievement. This ending is considered the best because you save both of your companions.
