Diablo IV looks to carry on the Diablo series while improving what makes it such a thrill. Players can expect fast-paced combat, rich lore, and an exciting world to explore. Unfortunately, they can expect numerous deaths as they are facing Lillith and the forces of Hell. This has led some players to wonder if dying is permanent in Diablo IV.
Does Diablo IV have permadeath?
The answer is yes—your heroes can die permanently in Diablo IV. However, this is only if you select the hardest difficulty, Hardcore. If you select this mode and your character dies, then they will be dead permanently, and you will not be able to revive them. Once you start a game on Hardcore, you cannot lower the difficulty.

This means you should think long and hard before starting Hardcore mode. Veterans of the series will recognize this difficulty from previous Diablo titles and will likely feel more comfortable playing it. However, newcomers should not choose Hardcore mode and should select an easier difficulty.
It should also be clear that Hardcore's permadeath does not extend to PvP deaths. Only dying in the main story will see your character permanently dead. Disconnects are no longer a fear either, as Blizzard has created Scrolls of Escape that will save your character from permadeath if you disconnect and die.
