Starfield – How to rotate ship parts

Why doesn't this part fit?

While there are many great ships you can find or purchase in Starfield, the best ones are those you build yourself. I've spent many hours in the ship builder menu customizing my ship, but only of the earliest problems I had was figuring out how to rotate pieces and make them fit better.

How to rotate your ship parts in Starfield

Rotating ship parts can be confusing for the first-time ship builder in Starfield. Thankfully, once you learn how to do it, you'll become an ace at flipping ship parts to the right angle. First, you need to head to a Ship Technician, which can be found at most spaceports where you dock your ship. Speak to the technician and select the option to view and modify your ships.

Select which ship you want to edit, and then you'll need to click on a ship part. Once you have selected the part to flip, you'll need to press the flip button, which is Z on mouse and keyboard or Y on a controller. Unfortunately, the flip is not as controllable as placing items in your house or Outpost and is locked to directional rotation.

Can you rotate all ship parts in Starfield?

The answer is no. While many parts can be rotated in different directions, not all can. If the part can be rotated, the flip option appears at the bottom of the ship builder menu after selecting that piece. Many cosmetic items are able to be rotated, but weapons, cockpits, engines, and other specific parts cannot be flipped.

Apparently, through rapidly spamming the flip button, you can place ship parts where they are not supposed to be. Redditor fw3d discovered and shared this bug. With it, you can have more freedom over your designs and create even more wacky spaceships.
