Despite being one of the most popular consoles and gaming platforms on the market, with a strong history of relative stability, it doesn’t mean things never go wrong (such as having trouble downloading games). The essence of this error is that your device couldn’t load the necessary content it was trying to access. This is likely due to a connection at your end or Microsoft’s, so I suggest doing the following:

  • Check your internet connection: Switch off your Xbox, then try to reboot your modem or router to restart your internet. Give it a few minutes to fully reboot, then restart your Xbox.
  • Check your internet speed: If you still have problems loading the content, check the network status by starting up your Xbox, opening the Guide (Xbox button), and clicking through to Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network speed & statistics. If packet loss is at 5% or more, the speed may not be currently fast enough to run the Xbox properly. If it doesn’t get back up to speed quickly, you’ll need to contact your ISP.
  • Check the Xbox server status: Head to the official Xbox status page to see if there’s a problem at their end. If there is, you may just need to wait it out and play again once the issues at Xbox have been resolved.

Another easy way to see if you have connection issues is to check other devices, especially packet-intensive services such as television. In most cases, you’ll just have to wait it out until the network connection is back up and running.
