FragPunk shard cards floating

Breaking down every card shown in FragPunk’s trailer

I'm only ever going to be picking Death's Embrace, I can already tell.

I never knew I needed a card game in my hero shooter, and now that FragPunk exists, I can't wait to get my hands on it. Check out our breakdown of every card, which is shown in FragPunk's trailer below.

All FragPunk card details from release trailer

There are going to be more than 70 shard cards in Fragpunk, and we've gotten a small glimpse of them in the game's trailer. It's a long time until 2025 when the game will be released, and I'm so excited to see the rest of the cards and figure out the best synergies.

World Flip

If you ever wanted to play on the ceiling, then you should make sure to use World Flip in your matches. This fun card will ensure that you have to learn the map layout both the right way and upside down. Time to pretend I'm Troy Bolton when the world flips (hopefully, motion sickness won't affect me there).

Death's Embrace

I am a big fan of the Reaper concept in anything, be it books, movies, or video games. Reaper is one of my favorite characters in Overwatch, for example (even though I am pretty bad as him). In FragPunk, when an enemy's HP drops below 50%, use this card and summon the Reaper to kill that enemy as well as others nearby.

Dragon's Breath

From the trailer, there are a few guesses I can make about the Dragon's Breath card:

  • Switch your primary weapon to a shotgun.
  • Increase shotgun damage.
  • Apply additional fire damage to targets hit with the shotgun.

Whichever of the options it is (or if it's something completely unrelated to what I mentioned), this card could be very useful to players who like to get closer to their enemies and use a shotgun.

Chain Reaction

The Chain Reaction shard card will chain a lightning-strike attack on multiple players. While the description doesn't mention any damage levels or side effects, this card could be very useful if it stunned enemies with lightning as well.

Healing Bullets

Healing bullets seem to be a popular mechanic in hero shooters (Skora in Star Wars: Hunters and Anna in Overwatch). I'm really not complaining since I'm not a great shot and would probably down my teammates if there is friendly fire (I sure hope not; my friends are already scared of me in R6).

Back-up Supplies

This is another card that doesn't have a description, but we can make assumptions about its effect based on the image. As we can see, there are a bunch of bullets lined up and 100% in the image, so we can guess that backup supplies will affect the amount of ammo you have.

Overtime

The Overtime card will add 30 seconds at the end of the game. If you need a few extra seconds to win, this card will be pretty useful. However, if you are winning and the other team uses it, I can imagine it's going to be very annoying.

Strange Herbs

This shard card summons special plants: Silencing Herb (which probably silences your footsteps), Cloaking Plant (to hide your presence from the enemy), and Bounce Mushroom (to get you to high places and get the advantage on the enemy).

Big Head

Do you struggle to hit headshots? That's not going to be an issue when you have the Big Head card. Honestly, I don't know how I'm ever going to stop laughing for long enough to hit anything since they look like hilarious Bobbleheads.

Lumitprint

While we don't see a description for this card, we can assume, based on the card photo, that enemies' footsteps will be illuminated. This will make for far easier tracking, though I wonder how efficient it will be if the opposing team uses Strange Herbs.

Endless Battle

Endless Battle seems to have a similar effect to Overtime, with 30 seconds added to your match time. The difference between the two cards is not obvious as of yet.

Community Healthcare

A very useful card that seems to restore the Health of your teammates. Depending on if it works for players who are in close range to you or if it will work on everyone on your team automatically, this card could become meta.

Quickstart

Quickstart is a shard card that doesn't have a description. My best guess is that it gives you a speed boost at the start of the game. I can definitely see this working for defense in cases where they need to set up and for the attack team to get to their targets faster.

Medical Error

You don't want there to be any Medical Error on your own team, so this card likely affects your enemies. It could affect and block only one player or the healing of the entire team.

Offense Defense

Offense Defense is the most confusing card for me. From the obvious, you would assume that it switches the Attack team to the Defense team and vice versa. This seems like a very complicated card to enact, but maybe that is the glory of it. If it works like that, it will definitely bring a lot of chaos to a match.

How to use shard cards in FragPunk

The card mechanic in FragPunk is still mostly unknown, as there isn't a lot of detail. From the trailer, we can see that both teams have three cards each. Whether this means you can use only the first three cards you selected at the beginning or change them every round is unclear.

Ember diamonds is another mechanic. You can inject Ember into your cards, and you seem to be able to give it to your teammates. Cards also have a different number of Ember slots (Strange Herbs has three, while Big Head has four). It will probably change based on the usefulness of the card.

These Embers could allow for more uses of a card or boost its effects. They could also be a currency that players spend on picking a card to bring into a game. Whatever the exact gameplay is, I'm definitely looking forward to it. Will I act like I am in a Yu-gi-oh duel? Most likely. Will that get me killed quickly? Even likelier.
