The Astronomical Clock is one of the larger puzzle pieces in the second chapter of Alone in the Dark because it consists of multiple stages. Here is how to solve it.
How to complete the Astronomical Clock puzzle in Alone in the Dark
To complete the Astronomical Clock puzzle in Alone in the Dark, you will first need to obtain two missing pieces of the puzzle.
- The first broken plate is located in Perosi's room.
- The second plate is at the bottom of the kitchen garden well.
How to find the first Astronomical Clock broken plate in Alone in the Dark
Once you enter the Perosi's room using Key #4 in Alone in the Dark, you will be faced with a riddle. I immediately discovered a locked vanity desk, which is an endpoint, but we'll get to that later. To begin this room puzzle, go behind the changing curtain. You will see six pictures on the wall. Here is where the puzzle begins.
The solution to this puzzle is to rotate the pictures as displayed in the image above. You'll know you completed the task successfully once the objective on your upper right screen corner gets crossed out. You're looking for three names on the paintings:
- William Arges
- Franklin Mosig
- Norah Keith

Once you take note of these names, approach a larger Astarte Artists family tree picture on the right wall and take a closer look. You are supposed to use the three names to look for their corresponding numbers to decipher Perosi's journal left on the sofa nearby. The solution is the following:
- William Arges: 2
- Franklin Mosig: 9
- Norah Keith: 4
If you cross-reference the numbers in Perosi's journal to symbols on the Zodiac wheel, you will get the solution. I have marked the symbols on the image above so you don't have to memorize how the symbols look, but the solution is the following:
- Pisces
- Libre
- Taurus
Once you input the Zodiac symbols into the vanity desk locker, you will be awarded the first piece of the Astronomical Clock puzzle.
How to find the second Astronomical Clock broken plate in Alone in the Dark
The Alone in the Dark's Astronomical Clock puzzle has two missing pieces, which you need to find before solving it. After completing the Perasi's room puzzle and getting the first piece, you are tasked with finding the second one, which you have, believe it or not, walked right by when you first started the game.
The second Astronomical Clock broken plate is located at the bottom of a well at the kitchen garden. Note that, while the game refers to it as well, it looks more like a simple hole in the ground. But you can't just reach down and take it, so you will need to fill the well up with water, which will, in turn, float the plate piece right up to you.
How to get Bolt Cutters in Alone in the Dark
Your first task is to find Bolt Cutters Alone in the Dark. After obtaining the first piece and unlocking the drawing room, you can find them in the Small Parlor. If you attempt to open the Library doors, you will be briefly returned to the shadow world, and everything's on fire. Retrace your steps back and you will see a table next to the window with Bolt cutters. You will need them to cut the chains on the door to the Conservatory and exit the shadow world.
Proceed to the Kitchen garden and cut the chains on the shed doors to find the garden hose. Use the missing hose piece to attach it to the main line and connect it to the hole. Now you only need to turn the tap to let the water pour into the hole. The second puzzle piece will now float up.
Guide to Astronomical Clock puzzle in Alone in the Dark
Once you have both of these pieces, return to the grand parlor and approach the Clock. Activate the puzzle and put the missing pieces into the Clock. Now it's time to rearrange them. You're looking to match the golden lines denoting astral movements with the golden ball while minding the edges of the disk in line. Use the image above for reference.

Aligning the Talisman on the Astronomical Clock puzzle in Alone in the Dark
To properly align the Talisman on the Astronomical Clock puzzle in Alone in the Dark, look at the numbers on the Clock face itself for a clue. Following all the Clock faces by going clockwise, you will get the tree reference numbers, which you need to input to rearrange the talisman position, and they are the following:
- 6
- 4
- 3
If you do everything correctly, the Talisman will activate the Astronomical Clock, triggering a shortcut scene and showing a room where you need to go next.
