Amnesia The Bunker endings explained

Needless to say, readers beware! Spoilers ahead!

Amnesia: The Bunker is the newest title in the famous survival horror series that redefined its genre, and it continues to do so as it pits us against a darkness-dwelling monster deep in a French bunker in World War I. The series is also known for having multiple endings, and I immediately presumed this one would have, too, depending on how I played the game and my decisions. For those faint of heart or the spoiler-seeking types, this article will explain how Amnesia: The Bunker ends and if there is more than one ending in the game.

How many endings does Amnesia: The Bunker have?

Amnesia: The Bunker has two endings. The one you get will depend on your actions during the final confrontation with the Beast. Using the locker codes, you should obtain all the necessary items to access the Dynamite from the Arsenal and a Detonator from the Roman tunnels, and you can finally blast your way to freedom. But soon, you will find yourself stranded, as the Dynamite accidentally collapsed the bunker floor instead of blowing the way open. The only way to go is downward into the deep!

The final battle with the Beast will be more of a cat-and-mouse game between you and the creature, as you will be facing it off in ancient ruins, a bunch of platforms interconnected by bridges. Your only goal is to get out alive. You can accomplish that by finding your way around the Beast, using draw bridges to delay its progress while you escape the tunnels, or killing it using weapons to collapse bridges below it.

First ending: The Beast Lives

During my first playthrough, I immediately scooted around the Beast, running for my dear life. I have used two Molotov cocktails I prepared in advance to delay its advance for long enough to make a bridge out of boxes to heave over the wall on the opposite side of the room and escape through the tunnel exit.

I was rewarded with a brief animation showing my character falling out of a hole in the ground and into a gruesome pit full of dead bodies of fallen soldiers. The shot panned upward to the tunnel I crawled out of to see the Beast also come after me. After taking a glance, probably looking for me, it gave up and quickly went away, perhaps startled by the distant voices of enemy soldiers.

Second ending: The Beast Dies

I managed to kill the Beast in the final battle with the help of one of my colleagues who played the campaign with me. The only way to kill the creature is to lure it out onto a wooden bridge and use a Grenade or a Shotgun to destroy it while the Beast stands on top of it. It will plunge to death, letting you complete the last task of crawling out of the ruins in peace.

The second ending's animation was rather anti-climactic, especially after seeing the one from the first ending. The events are the same, with me tumbling down into a bloody hole and looking up. The only difference is that no monster appeared, signaling that I finally managed to rid myself of my nemesis once and for good. The enemy soldiers could still be heard approaching, meaning that Henri Clément's troubles were not yet over.
