How to break the Umami blocks in Another Crab's Treasure

If you've been trying to break these cubes with every attack, shell, and adaptation you managed to find and nothing was working, we're in the same boat. Every time I'd discover a new power, I'd run straight back to try and break the Umami blocks in Another Crab's Treasure, but nothing was working.

Of course, that's because I still haven't discovered the most useful secret, Grovekeeper Topoda and his location. He has an adaptation called the Mantis Punch which deals a lot of damage to enemies, but more importantly, can break through the glowing purple blocks infused with Umami power.

Topoda is very easy to miss if you choose to run past the Curdled Village sniper crab every time like I do. However, if you want to fully complete the game you will have to climb past it onto the ledge and follow the trail until you reach the secret boss.

Once you defeat him, Krill will let him live, leaving Topoda grateful. He will then give you the Mantis Punch adaptation. He will also now be available for adaptation upgrades, so you can come back any time and upgrade your adaptations for crystals.

With the power, you can now go across the various areas and destroy the Umami blocks. They usually give you better rewards, like the Old World Whorl which increases your Umami charges.

However, they will also hide more secret bosses. The purple block in Grove actually hides the path to the Consortium, another secret boss. You'll want to defeat it as well since you'll get a new adaptation called the Tactical Tentacle. This summons an Umami tentacle that copies your attack moves for additional damage.
