Control in Apex Legends is all about taking control of the map via owning various combinations of the three Zones: A, B, and C. When a team owns a Zone, they get one point per second. This stacks with how many Zones a given team owns. But how do you claim a Zone in Control? It works like a standard control point style game, but we'll break it down for those who don't have experience with the genre.
If you own the Zone that you are on, you will generally be playing defense. If the enemy owns the Zone you are on, you'll be playing offense. The goal is to wipe out all enemy team members or lure or force them out of the Zone to capture it for your team.
Once only your team is on the Zone, you will take control of it over a timer. The other team can try to contest during this time if anyone can make it into the Zone. If this happens, your team will need to take down any enemy players that storm the Zone. Once the Zone is cleared for the full time, your team will control it and shift to a defensive play on the Zone.
