Assassin's Creed has always had a mixture of different areas to focus on, whether it's full-on stealth and assassin gameplay to the more combat-oriented gameplay when stealth fails. Regardless of your playstyle is, over the latest Assassin's Creed titles, you can optimize your difficulty to how you prefer it. In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, it's been refined once more!
Assassin's Creed Valhalla How to Change Difficulty
To change your difficulty, all you have to do is open up the options menu, select gameplay then scroll down until you see the Combat, Stealth, and Exploration section. Here is where you can change different elements of the difficulty to better match your playstyle.
The three levels of difficulty you can change are Combat, Stealth, and Exploration, and you can change these to make them easier or harder based on your preference. Take Exploration; for example, on easy more information will be revealed to you on your HUD and compass. Meaning that navigation will be easier. It'll also tell you where quests are located via a waypoint. However, if you increase the Exploration difficulty, these elements will be taken away from you, making things difficult to locate.
Don't worry though, if you changed it and didn't like how fast you were dying or how fast you were caught when attempting to be stealthy, you can tweak it again to find the settings that suit you perfectly.
Here are the three difficulty settings for Assassin's Creed Valhalla:
Exploration Difficulty Settings
- Explorer (Easy)
- Adventurer (Default)
- Pathfinder (Hard)
- Custom
Combat Difficulty Settings
- Skald (Easy)
- Vikingr (Default)
- Berserkr (Hard)
- Drengr (Very Hard)
Stealth Difficulty Settings
- Apprentice (Easy)
- Assassin (Default)
- Master Assassin (Hard)
Of course, turning all three on to Hard will make the game incredibly challenging. You'll have next to no HUD or compass displays, so finding where to go is completely off your own back. Combat will be deadly; a few hits, and you will die, and enemies will have increased health. And increasing Stealth difficulty will make your foes more aware and will be extremely perceptive - they'll notice things faster. Your attire makes no difference to the difficulty aspect, so cover yourself and tattoos and change your hairstyle as much as you want!
If you have purchased the special edition, the Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Ultimate Edition, getting the DLC items included in that bundle will help you amazingly in the early stages of the game.
