Role-playing is one of the best parts of D&D, and getting the point of Inspiration from the DM is always rewarding for me. Larian Studios has incorporated this resource in Baldur's Gate 3, though it functions differently than its tabletop version and no longer grants advantage. Let's explore what Inspiration is and how to get it in Baldur's Gate 3.
What is Inspiration in Baldur's Gate 3?
Inspiration is a reward for playing your character's backstory in Baldur's Gate 3, and can be used when you fail a skill check to reroll and attempt it again. You can only have a max of four Inspiration at one time, so you cannot hoard it infinitely.
I recommend saving Inspiration for rolls or checks that seem important, but don't be too afraid to use it, as it can be easily gained. I usually try to keep two Inspiration as I play; that way, I always have the option to reroll an important moment. Somehow, my rolls always fail when I need a high roll, so Inspiration has been crucial to my character's success.
How to get Inspiration in Baldur's Gate 3?
If you act in a way that fits with your character's origin, you gain a point of Inspiration. When this happens, a message will appear, informing you that you have earned Inspiration. For example, when saving Wyll and the soldiers outside of the Druid's Grove, Lae'zel's Soldier background will trigger the No Soldier Left Behind Inspiration.
This is the only way to get Inspiration in Baldur's Gate 3, as there is no DM to give you this feature. Keep in mind all of your characters can earn Inspiration, so try to play to each character's background.
