In Baldur's Gate 3, you can customize your character extensively by choosing their class, physical constitution, race, and more. During the character creation screen, you will be presented with the option to select a secondary Guardian figure. Naturally, players want to know who this Guardian is, and if this choice actually matters in the game. Here's what you need to know about the Guardian in Balder's Gate 3.
What does the Guardian do in Balder's Gate 3?
Choosing your Guardian is an option you will get at the start of the game. This is essentially a second character that you select, but it has very little impact on the game. A Guardian is in fact a character you'll get to see a few times in the cutscenes. Surprisingly, you don't get to select class, skills, or other aspects of the Guardian character. This is because you won't be actively playing with them, or have the character in your party.
In fact, the Guardian shows up in flashbacks and dreams, and your character interacts with them. While this provides little context behind the Guardian's existence, the character will be a part of your story from the very beginning. If you are wondering how your character survived the fall from the Nautiloid, the Guardian was definitely behind the scenes, orchestrating a grand rescue.
I am still in the early phases of the game, and the importance of the Guardian may yet elude us. We will add more relevant details about the Guardian as we explore the narrative further to understand their purpose and role in your character's life.
