If you want to communicate but don't want to speak, it's time to break out the emotes. Here's how to access the emote menu, select a mood depending on the system you're playing with, and a few special perks from emoting on Borderlands.
Access the Borderlands 3 emote menu
To get into the emote menu, press and hold the pause button. On PS4, this is the Options menu pause button, not the touchpad. Make sure that you actually hold the button down (don't just tap it), otherwise, the pause menu will pop up.

Once you've brought up the emote menu, use the left thumbstick to tab through the emotion options. Find the one you want to use, and press X on PS4 or A on Xbox One to select the emote.
If you're playing on PC, you'll press Z on your keyboard to bring up the menu.
Borderlands 3 emote options
While emoting is a great way to add a little bit of personality to your game, especially in co-op mode, the emote wheel in Borderlands 3 comes with a few unique powers. You can use the emote wheel to initiate a duel between other players, and you can also use it to ping a location on the map if you're having trouble finding an area, just like you can in Apex Legends.
