Black Ops 6 is all set to host a brand new event called King of the Dead in the Zombies mode. Just like its predecessors, even this one lets you earn free cosmetics by participating in it, so let's talk about the King of the Dead release date, rewards and more.
It's one of the key highlights of the Season 4 Reloaded update, alongside new maps, cosmetics and challenges. The King of the Dead event promises to be fun, and is a PvE event, in like with the kind of mechanics available in Black Ops 6 Zombies.
Black Ops 6 King of the Dead Event Explained
The Black Ops 6 King of the Dead event is expected to release a few days after the Season 4 Reloaded update goes live. There's already an event that is active, so you can expect it to start on July 3, the day Rivals ends.
There's a Master of Grief event that will also possibly run alongside the King of the Dead event, so the rewards for both these could be tied together. They will be active in the Zombies mode only! The event descriptions for these two reads as follows:
- King of the Dead: “Eliminate zombies in any Zombie mode to earn points to climb the leaderboard.”
- Master of Grief: “Collect Essence in Grief to earn points to climb the leaderboard.”
How Do These Events Work?
As understood from the two explanations, all you need to do is slay zombies to earn points. If you're playing the Grief mode, then you need to collect the Essence that drops from the undead that you kill. There's also a points system associated with both these events.

The more points you earn, the higher your position on the leaderboard. Once the event ends, you'll get a reward depending upon your leaderboard rank. Don't worry if you rank low though, you'll receive a reward as long as you've participated in the events.
Black Ops 6 Grief Mode Explained
The Grief Mode features indirect PvP type of combat, where you can debuff your enemies, putting them at a disadvantage against the Zombies. However, you can't kill the enemy team at all. Here, your goal is to be the last team standing by forcing the enemy to enter a downed state or by putting them in a situation where they're killed. You fight as a team of four and you capture zones, which in turn debuffs your enemies, which likely includes the opposing team too.
King of the Dead Event Rewards

Both the King of the Dead and the Master of Grief feature two special rewards, namely the Olympia Shotgun, and the Pickaxe. The former is a special weapon, while latter is a melee weapon. Now, Blizzard hasn't clarified which item drops from which event, but both are categorized as event rewards in the official blog post, so expect them to drop through these events only.
