In Modern Warfare 3, optics play an important role while you're building a loadout, especially when the weapon doesn't have a clean iron sight. In this guide, I've listed the best optics for different usage scenarios in MW3.
What optic attachments should I use in Modern Warfare 3?
I've made the selection of the best scopes based on how clean they look and their reticle style. This is how it breaks down:
- Close Range Optics: Scopes with no ADS speed penalty and most suitable for ARs, SMGs, and Handguns you intend to use at a close-mid range.
- Mid Range Optics: Perfect for ARs and LMGs builds for range and even quickscope sniping.
- Long Range Optics: These scopes often come with a zoom toggle and are made for Sniper Rifles and Marksman Rifles.
- Hybrid Optics: For those who prefer both a medium zoom and close range optic on their ARs and Battle Rifles.
- Thermal Optics: Best for hazy environments and when enemies are using Smoke Grenades.
- Rangefinder Optics: Special case scopes that help you get longshot kills and determine the target's range.
Best close range optics in MW3
- MK.3 Reflector
- Cronen Mini Pro
- Slate Reflector
- Slimline Pro
- Aim-OP V4
- Cronen Intlas MSP-12
All these low-zoom optics have clean, minimal bezels and come with a dot reticle that gives you a clear view of the target. If you like the red dot reticle, go with the Slimeline Pro, or else pick the Slate Reflector for a blue dot. Cronen Intlas MSP-12 is a special optic with not so clear picture, but I've listed it because it's the only optic that boosts your weapon's ADS speed.
Best mid range optics MW3
- Corio Eagleseye 2.5x
- Schlager 3.4x
- VLK 4.0x Optic
- Forge Tac Delta 4
The zoom level on these mid-range optics varies from 2.5x to 5.5x for the FTAC Delta 4. These are best used on ARs, LMGs, and Marksman Rifles for mid-long-range combat, especially in Ground War, War Mode, and other similar large-scale operations.
Best long range optics MW3
- SZ HM5 Precision Hybrid Optic
- Luca Bandera Scope
- DS Farsight 11
- SP-X 80 6.6x
- FTAC Locus SP
- XTEN Intlas AS-7
- Akalina LR-Stalk Optic
All these high-level zoom scopes are perfect for long-range sniping if you don't want to use the stock optic on Sniper Rifles. Furthermore, you should use these on the Marksman Rifles for best target acquisition. My personal favorite is the DS Farsight 11, which has a clean reticle and viable hybrid zoom toggle.

Best hybrid optics MW3
- SZ Vortex-90
- BPZ40 Hybrid
Both of these optics are great, but I prefer the SZ Vortex-90 for its green dot reticle. When you toggle to the lower zoom scope, it becomes a holo sight with the same green dot in the center.
Best thermal optics MW3
- SZ Holotherm
- Schlager Night View
- SZ Heatsource 800
SZ Holotherm is the best optic with thermal target identification to use on ARs and LMGs for close to mid-range combat. The Schlager Night View is great for semi-auto weapons like Battle Rifles. Finally, you can use the SZ Heatsource 800 on Snipers and Marksman Rifles.
Best rangefinder optics MW3
- XTEN Angel-40
- Raptor-FVM40
The target range indicator on the Raptor-FVM40 doesn't just tell you the distance of the target. It also has a bullet drop indicator. The center red dot reticle moves down the crosshairs, showing where the bullet is going to hit so you can adjust for the range and falloff.
