Once you start getting surplus power in Cities Skylines 2, exporting it will happen without much work on your part. Importing power is about as easy to do, so long as you've chosen the right map.

How do you export power in Cities Skylines 2?

To understand how exporting power works in Cities Skylines 2, you must first know that excess power is automatically sold off to other cities to make you money. That being said, you must have excess power in the first place for this to happen. Once you have more power than your citizens can use, the city will sell the surplus without you needing to change anything.

If you want to sell excess power via exports, you need to know how to get excess power. To do this, you need to set up multiple power plants or wind turbines. You can even give them extra upgrades to harvest more power. If you're using a wind turbine, make sure to pay attention to wind direction when placing them. Without optimizing their location, your costly wind turbines will be useless.

If you want to bring in power from a different source in your town, make sure your map supports this in the first place. When you are choosing a map in Cities Skylines 2, you can see what imports are available under the Outside Connections portion of the map info. Most will have electricity, but it's important to check.

Once you know whether or not your map has outside electricity, look around your map. You'll see a large power line somewhere along a boundary, one you didn't set up. Connect your power grid to this outside line in order to begin importing power to your town!
