Cyberpunk 2077: Multiplayer – Cross Play, Release Date

Multiplayer can rejuvenate a dead game and bring back the players! It can also lengthen the lifespan of a game considerably for years to come. In games like Cyberpunk 2077, there is enough content to keep single player gamers occupied for a long time. When the multiplayer aspect comes around, depending on what it entails, it might divide the player base or unite them. Though, without a doubt, it will make Cyberpunk 2077 seem immortal.

Cyberpunk 2077: Multiplayer Release Date

The standalone multiplayer of Cyberpunk 2077 is rumored to be launching in the first quarter of 2021; however, this could easily be delayed until later on in the year or even pushed back fully to 2022.

CD PROJEKT RED is classing the multiplayer element as a completely standalone product; in terms of that it may be a separate download. Not in the sense it has nothing to do with the Cyberpunk universe.

It could be possible they are waiting until the next-generation upgrades for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X are released before they release it.

Though CDJ doesn't have a spotless track record when it comes to release date promises, according to a developer, there is more than enough to sink your teeth into until the multiplayer element is released, as they have been playing the game for 175 hours!

Cyberpunk 2077 Cross Play

Cross play in Cyberpunk 2077 is still an unknown variant, as CDJ has not released any information about it.

In today's standards, cross play should be the norm for all multiplayer games, depending on size and indie. Even Sony, who was adamant not to allow cross play has now left it in the hands of the developers, whether they choose to implement it or not.

If our theory up above is correct, that they are waiting for the next-generation version to be released to enable the multiplayer, then cross play should be guaranteed. As waiting for something that doesn't allow everyone to play together, seems strange at best. Though remember, this is a theory!
