Complete Dual Destiny mission walkthrough in Destiny 2

You must complete Dual Destiny with each class to get all three Exotic class items. Those Prismatic armor perks that come with Exotic items are so good you'll have to put your skills to the test. But first, you must unlock the Dual Destiny quest in Destiny 2. If you've already done this, refer to the table of contents above to find out how to get Prismatic Exotic items.

How to get Dual Destiny in Destiny 2

To unlock the Dual Destiny quest, you must first complete Overthrow activities in the Landing, the Blooming, and the Impasse. After success, your next challenge will be to defeat the Secret Keeper of the Witch Queen. The Overthrow locations are marked in the image below, with the Refraction being the last stop.

  • Overthrow location in the Landing in Destiny 2
  • Overthrow location in the Blooming in Destiny 2
  • Overthrow location in the Impasse in Destiny 2
  • Overthrow location in the Refraction in Destiny 2

You're almost done unlocking the Dual Destiny mission by this point. You'll face Expector Selin, who will drop the Light orb once you have dealt enough damage to it. Place the Light orb in the nearby hall and then face Expector Yemiq. After you deal enough damage, he'll drop the Darkness orb. Place the orb like you did the Light one to unlock the Dual Destiny cooperative quest.

Platforms (pedestals or plates, call them however you wish) are the most used mechanic in the Dual Destiny mission. To succeed, you must stand on a Light plate if you're a Light player or a Dark plate if you're a Dark player. This action enables progress by removing obstacles, adjusting platforms, or unlocking further sections of the encounter.

You must cooperate with your friend to complete symbol puzzles in Duel Destiny. The goal is to read the symbols to the other players who'll shoot them. You'll repeat the process multiple times, during which you'll either dictate or shoot. There are three rooms with symbols.

  • Room #1 - Darkness subclass player shoots three symbols.
  • Room #2 - Light subclass player shoots three symbols.
  • Room #3 - Each player gets to shoot two symbols (four in total).

If you make a mistake, you'll have to repeat it with a different batch of symbols. If this is not complex enough, you'll have to deal with enemies during the process. Each player must handle enemies vulnerable to Light or Darkness while immune to the opposite damage type.

To solve the nine floating rocks (shards) puzzle, you must identify which ones are connected to the center. Although you see only three disconnected rocks, your friend will see there disconnected different rocks (six in total).

To solve the puzzle, you must shoot three still connected remaining. To make your communication easier, mark shards from 1 to 9 clockwise. So if you see, for example, 1-5-7 rocks, and your friend sees 2-3-4, this means you must shoot rocks on positions 6-8-9.

To make it more challenging, to be able to shoot floating rocks, you must first kill a nearby Tormentor enemy. Whoever kills him first will receive the Harmonic Sundering buff that lasts 30 seconds. Only the buffed player (you or your teammate) can shoot disconnected rocks.

How to complete Dual Destiny boss battle in Destiny 2

The final encounter combines symbol and rock puzzles with two bosses immune to Light and Darkness. To defeat them, you must alternate between damaging the bosses and solving puzzles necessary for destroying their shields. You have 18 minutes to defeat the final bosses in Dual Destiny.

The floating shards puzzle is modified here as both players must look at separate circles of rocks to find one that both have. If you read it as a clock, let's say you have a 2-4-7-8 combination. Your teammate will, for example, have 2-5-9-10, meaning you both have connected rock (shard) on position 2. You must quickly shoot rock number 2. Combination changes rapidly, so be prepared. You must do this three times in a row.

Should I kill my teammate in Dual Destiny in Destiny 2?

You can choose to fight your teammate at the end of the Dual Destiny mission or part as friends. Choose a shard in front of you if you decide to double-cross your friend and start a fight. If you value honor and friendship, choose a shard behind you. As it happens, this duel is just for fun, as there is no penalty for a defeated player. Hence, whatever you choose, both of you will be rewarded with a class-specific Prismatic Exotic item.
