What is the Competitive Division playlist in Destiny 2?

It's about time.

Beginning in Season 19, Bungie has reworked the Crucible Competitive Glory playlist in Destiny 2 to the Competitive Division. This true ladder-based system is designed to give PvP players and those PvP-curious players a reason to sink some serious time into the intense 3v3 game mode. With it being a new mode, there's a lot to digest and go over, so let's get into it!

When does the Competitive Division playlist come to Destiny 2?

The Competitive Division is an intense 3v3 Ranked playlist in Destiny 2. Consisting of seven divisions with three subdivisions each, Guardians will work their way from the bottom run (Copper III) to the top (Ascendant I). After completing the introductory quest, Guardians will begin a placement series of seven matches. This will determine Guardians' starting position, with the highest positioning being Gold III.

Competitive Division Ranks

  • Copper (I-III)
  • Bronze (I-III)
  • Silver (I-III)
  • Gold (I-III)
  • Platinum (I-III)
  • Adept (I-III)
  • Ascendant (I-III)

A Guardian's Division Rating is based on four major factors: match outcome, division inflation/deflation, match performance, and player-to-lobby skill delta. When a Guardian is ready to move up a subdivision, they will automatically do so. When moving up a division, they will enter into a promotion series where they must win two out of three games to be promoted. Similarly, if a Guardian is about to lose a division, there is a series where they must win two out of three matches to avoid the demotion.

Competitive Division Rewards

Rather than have specific rewards tied to division ranks, Bungie has opted to have a reward multiplier based on rank.

  • Copper and Bronze: 1x
  • Silver: 1.1x
  • Gold: 1.2x
  • Platinum: 1.3x
  • Adept: 1.4x
  • Ascendant: 1.5x

Finally, Guardians will have the chance to earn different roles on the legendary hand cannon, Rose. This hybrid 140/150 RPM hand cannon will be designed to have perks that complement the Competitive Division and PvP. Players can earn one roll per character per week. Overall, Competitive Division promises to be the much-needed next step in Destiny 2 PvP, and we are all for it.
