All Diablo 4 Stats and what they mean, explained

Lots of stats to learn.

Diablo 4 is a big game with a lot to do, and newcomers to the franchise might find themselves overwhelmed with everything going on. Stats are very important to know about, so let's go through a breakdown of them.

Diablo 4 Core Stats breakdown

There are four core stats in Diablo 4 to look at, and here's how they work.

  • Strength: +1 Armor per point
  • Intelligence: +0.05% All Resistance per point
  • Willpower: +0.1% Healing Received and +0.25% Overpower Damage per point
  • Dexterity: +0.01% Dodge Chance per point

On the surface, these numbers look minuscule, and the average player won't have to worry about any of this at all. These stats are still important, because they will matter more depending on the class you're playing. Barbarians will benefit having a high Strength number because it increases their skill damage. Sorcerers and Necromancers want high Intelligence because that increases their skill damage.

The gear you pick up while playing will typically feature your main stat automatically, so don't overthink the gearing process too much. Every now and then you do come across class-specific gear, but that's far from the norm.

What are Offensive and Defensive stats in Diablo 4?

Outside of the core four, there are a variety of different offensive and defensive stats to look at. A lot of these come down to what type of build you're using. For example, ranged classes will prefer to have a damage bonus against distant enemies, while melee-focused ones will benefit from increased damage to close enemies.

Here's a look at offensive stats.

  • Weapon Damage
  • Attack Speed
  • Critical Strike Chance
  • Critical Strike Damage
  • Damage to Close Enemies
  • Damage to Distant Enemies
  • Damage to Healthy Enemies
  • Vulnerable Damage
  • Overpower Damage

While leveling, it doesn't really matter what stats you have on your gear, but once you start fine tuning your build, it matters. Obviously, leveling with something like a Whirlwind Barbarian benefits from a Damage to Close Enemies stat, but it shouldn't be something you spend a lot of time looking for early on.

Defensive stats are ways to increase your health pool, armor, etc. so they are things that will help you out a lot. They sound similar to offensive stats in terms of their wording, so it's easy to understand.

  • Max Life
  • Armor
  • Damage Reduction
  • Resistances
  • Dodge Chance
  • Healing Received
  • Close and Distant Damage Reduction

Classes with low health pools could greatly benefit from defensive stats like Dodge Chance and Max Life increases, and that really comes in handy when leveling a Rogue. Healing received is a big one for classes in the thick of things like Barbarian and Druids.

When the time comes for your build to start mattering, just start taking a look at the stats your gear holds. If you're looking to become some sort of girthy warrior with a massive health pool, focus on Max Life stats. If you want to maximize your DPS, look for Critical Strike and Attack Speed stats.
