So a fabled Legendary item just dropped. You're overjoyed. A new Legendary means a new powerful effect to add to your arsenal of toys. You take a look at it, and the effect is as awesome as you hoped. So, you eagerly equip it... and it's gray. Grayed out. Why, you wonder? What does that mean? Such a thing hasn't happened before, so why is it happening now? If this is you, know that it was also me, until I figured out exactly what this mystery was all about. Here's why your Legendary Effect is grayed out and not working as intended.
Why is my Aspect not working in Diablo IV?
The reason your Legendary effect, or Aspect, isn't working is actually very simple, but not explained at all in-game. Your effect is grayed out because you already have a duplicate Aspect effect active somewhere on your gear. That's right. You've seen that effect before, even if you didn't notice it yourself. The worst thing? If the new item you equipped has a better version of an Aspect, say a higher value or percentage, the game will still use the weaker effect because it was equipped first.
All you need to do is unequip the item with the weaker version of your desired Aspect. Duplication of Aspect effects doesn't work, so you'll need to do this so you aren't wasting a gear slot on an inactive effect. Diablo 4 has a ton of Aspect effects to hunt, so don't let this little issue bring your build down. Make sure you know which Aspects you're using already, so you plan accordingly.
