One of the things that makes a monster good in Dragon Quest Monsters is their Traits. Here’s a list of the best ones in The Dark Prince.
Must have Traits in Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince
Traits are unique to a monsters’ species. They usually dictate the best talents you can give them. For example, Jester Slime has a trait called “Major Downer,” which adds an additional debuff if it lowers the stat of any enemy.
That said, here’s a list of a couple of Traits I found extremely useful in the game.
Trait | Description |
Meister Traits | Increases the potency of a specific pool of magic attacks (e.g. Bang, Crack) and decreases MP consumption for them |
Ultra Crafty Traits | Increases the potency of whatever element or debuff it's attached to |
Crafty Devil | Makes it easier to inflict any status ailment |
Bigger Upper | Extends the duration of skills that raise stats. In addition, randomly grants invincibility, the ability to reflect spells or breath attacks, or raises evasion |
Major Downer | Extends the duration of skills that lower stats. In addition, randonmy prevents breath attacks, critical hits, and the casting of magic. Can also bedazzle the enemy. |
Metal Skin | Reduces damage received by 1/3 but doubles MP consumption |
Slick Skin | Sometimes causes direct attacks to miss |
Supreme Sidestepper | Makes it much easier to avoid enemy attacks |
Tactical Trooper | Sometimes allows the monster to perform two actions in a row |
| |
Tactical Commander | Lets the monster perform two actions in a row |
Tactical Titan | Lets the monster perform two to three actions in a row |
Insult to Injury | Increases DMG to enemies with status ailments |
Stunning Skin | Sometimes stuns an enemy that physically attacks it (good with the Selflessness skill) |
Naked Ambition | Sometimes increases critical hits if no accessory is equipped |
Echonomist | Sometimes casts the same spell twice |
Critical Sensation | Makes it much easier to land critical hits |
Critical Mastermind | Makes it much easier to land critical spells |
Little Menace | Increases DMG against small (S) monsters |
Strong Starter | Increases DMG up to Round 3 but lowers it after that (good in PvP) |
Last Gasp | Automatically revives a single ally once per battle |
Deadly Touch | Regular attacks sometimes instantly kills the enemy |

How to find monsters with specific Traits in The Dark Prince
In order to know which monster(s) have the Trait you need to filter them using your Monsterpedia. Follow the below steps:
1. Open Settings.
2. Go to Adventure Journal and select Monsterpedia.
3. Open filters. Set the Trait to your chosen one.
Again, these Traits are useless without the correct Talent, so be sure you’re giving your monsters the right ones.
