Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince Aamon’s Sanctum Guide (Water Dungeon)

I’ll teach you how to reach the exit so YOU don’t have to cry for an hour.

Aamon’s Sanctum, like all water dungeons, is my least favorite part of the game. Here’s how to reach the inner area of Aamon’s Sanctum in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.

The first part should be a breeze for you (it’s also the part where I know for a fact you’re NOT stuck at). Just get these two columns to face this way, allowing the water to pass through the middle and elevate the orange platforms.

To do that:

  1. Face the right pillar down to elevate the platforms near the entrance.
  2. Cross those to be able to turn the left pillar to the center.
  3. Cross the platforms again to access the right pillar. Turn it towards the center, too.

Now, this is where things get unconventional. For you to even attempt to put all the stone pillars in the right direction, you need to stop the middle water from passing through the gates (again).

To do this, you must first... go back to the first area (yes you heard me)—but not through any of the middle platforms. Here's what you need to do:

1. Turn the middle right pillar so that it falls to the back. This should elevate this red-encircled platform.

2. Then, use the platform to cross back to the bottom right switch and turn it off.

The middle water should stop flowing from the gate. You will know this because the two elevated platforms from before cannot be crossed, so check. If that’s the case, you’re on the right track.

Use the still-elevated platform on the right side to cross back to the middle of the dungeon. Then, from the middle right side, rotate the pillar so that it faces the Great Hall. This is so you can run back to the middle.

With the water gone, we can start rotating the stone pillars… starting from the back left!

How to turn all the Aamon’s Sanctum pillars in the correct order

Again, start at the back left pillar. This is non-negotiable. Move in the map direction below to access the back left switch.

You must turn the pillar so that the open side faces the center of the dungeon.

Note that this pillar should have NO water running through it. If you’ve messed with the switches before and see water on this, you must turn the middle left pillar away from the Great Hall entrance.

Is your back left pillar all set? Good. Cross the should be still empty passage way at the bottom to access the back rightmost switch.

Once you’re there, do the same as last time. Turn the pillar so that its open side faces the center of the dungeon.

Next, move to the switch just below the one you just messed with. The open side should face the pillar beside it.

Here’s what your map should look like now.

Now, things should be easy. You're even allowed to mess up! Here's what to do next:

  1. Walk to the middle left switch and turn that last pillar in the Great Hall's direction.
  2. Walk to the middle right switch and turn the pillar so that it faces south (like before). This way, you can move back to the very first area.
  3. Finally, remember the switch I asked you to mess with in the beginning? Turn that pillar back in the Great Hall's direction so that water passes through the middle gate again.
  4. Cross an elevated platform and move to the middle right switch again. Finally, turn that pillar towards the direction of the Great Hall.

At this point, all the water should be running, and the last platforms that lead to the Great Hall should be elevated. It’s time to face Aamon!
