The basic requirement for making a camp in Dragon's Dogma 2 is to have obtained some sort of a Camping Kit. At the beginning of the game, a Modest Camping Kit will do just fine. After you have it in your inventory, look for any place on the side of the road that has a campfire with a small clearing around it. When you approach the hearth, the game will prompt you to either build a camp or reset your skills without building it.

Where to find Modest Camping Kit in Dragon's Dogma 2

You don't have to stray too far off your main quest to find Modest Camping Kit in Dragon's Dogma 2. Just as soon as I left Melve on my way to the capital city accompanied by armed guards, I discovered a small clearing in the area marked on the map above. When I picked up the Modest Camping Kit, one of my Pawns warned me that we should probably scour the surrounding area for any enemies.

This is good advice, as you should always look out for any bandits, goblins, or hostile creatures as you pick a place where you want to pitch a tent, as you might get attacked in the middle of the night. You will be fighting at a disadvantage, and your Camping Kit may be ruined, preventing you from using it in the future.

Benefits of camping in Dragon's Dogma 2

There are many benefits of camping in Dragon's Dogma 2, much like paying for lodging at a town inn. Your party's missing Health and Stamina will rejuvenate with a good night's sleep, and you will also get a chance to cook your food. Prepping your food in such a way will grant you a stat boost, depending on the meat you consume.
