Dredge Research Assistant Samples: How to get Giant Amphipod, Anglerfish, Loosejaw & Snailfish

Braving the center of Stellar Basin.

As you sail the seas in fishing RPG Dredge, you’ll meet a host of characters on the islands looking for help. The quests, here called Pursuits, are well worth following up on. The rewards are often unique, such as spells, resources, or items that open up new fishing opportunities. If you want to fully fish the Stellar Basin, you’ll need to help the Research Assistant. Read on to find out how to get the Giant Amphipod, Anglerfish, Loosejaw, and Snailfish samples needed for the Research Assistant in Dredge.

We’ll presume here that you’ve already found the Aurora Jellyfish, Glowing Octopus, and Firefly Squid for the Research Assistant and received (then mounted) the Sampling Device that allows for Abyssal fishing. If not, you’ll need to complete that part of the quest (linked above) before you can complete this one. The Research Assistant will also give you the Repulsion Device, which you need to take to the Research Post (G4) and connect it to the Generator there. You’ll also need to research Bottomless Lines in the Rods section using one Research Part, then buy and equip it. This allows you to fish for Hadal catches. You’re now equipped to collect all of the samples.

Where to find Loosejaw in Dredge

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

To find Loosejaw, you need to head to the open water outside the ring of islands that makes up the Stellar Basin. You can fish for both types of fish day and night, and you can spot them easily by using your Spyglass (by pressing E) while patrolling around the outer edges of the island ring. We found Loosejaw southeast (G1) of the pontoon.

Where to find Anglerfish in Dredge

You can find the Anglerfish in exactly the same way as the Loosejaw. Note the Anglerfish takes up a hefty five spaces, so be sure to have plenty of room on board. However, you can drop the fish off one at a time if you like and in any order, so there’s no pressure. We found Anglerfish south of Starlight Pontoon (E1).

For the Snailfish, you’ll need to head into the center of the Stellar Basin (F3). As long as you’ve started up the Repulsion Device as described above, you can now go there without fear. You can also find both of these fish during the day or night-time, so again there is no pressure to be risky. However, note that the Repulsion Device will switch itself off regularly, so go and turn it on each day that you intend to fish or dredge in the center of the area.

You will find the Giant Amphipod in a pool in the same small area as the Snailfish. Also note that you will find the Jewel Encrusted Band here, which you need to hand into the Collector on Blackstone Isle. When you hand her the final sample, this will complete the pursuit and she’ll reward you with the book, A Plan for the Future.
