Three upgrades can be purchased right at William's Trading Post, around Day 3, after helping him collect the needed materials. He will provide you the ugrades as long as you have the Salt and materials to pay for them. Here's what he has:

  • Axe - 25 Wood, 30 Stone, 300 Salt
  • Hoe - 25 Wood, 20 Stone, 300 Salt
  • Harvesting Gloves - 25 Wood, 30 Stone, 300 Salt

The last two upgrades, for the Watering Can and the Fishing Pole, can be done at the god tree in the map's swamp area to the farm's left. This opens up around Day 5-6 when Daniel moves the obstacles blocking the path. Speak to the man in the swamp, and he will give you the keycard you can offer to the Water god tree. Doing this will give you your first upgrade for the Watering Can. You can repeat this process to receive other upgrades, but it can only be done on a foggy day.

You can offer up other trades to the fish god to receive some random other items, which can be worth doing to discover ingredients or materials you don't already have. However, upgrades are by far the most important to get from offerings, so always make a trip there on a foggy day.
