How to use the map in Elden Ring?

No towers or Tallnecks, just a torn map with absolutely no blood on it.

The map feature in Elden Ring is accessible whenever the player is not in combat. You can easily access it by pressing the View or Select button on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S controllers, the Touchpad on PlayStation 4/5 controllers, or the G key on Keyboard. As bare as it looks at first glance, you can also fill out the map.

How to expand the map

The map in Elden Ring can be marked with Waypoints or Markers, both of which are useful icons that will help players keep track of specific NPCs, bosses, and items. The map itself is expanded and filled in by finding area maps in the game. The earliest map that you can find is Northeast of The First Step grace site.

The area is called the Gatefront Ruins and has many enemies and treasures in the encampment. The map is located just beneath a stone pillar with text, and once picked up, you will fill out the western part of Limgrave. There are several map fragments players can find, and you can easily miss this mechanic, so keeping a lookout for pillars like these to fill out the entire map is essential.
