How to defeat Pandemonium in Final Fantasy 16

The orc king.

Pandemonium is one of the last S-rank hunts you can do in Final Fantasy XVI. Unlike most games where Orcs are brutes in terms of ability and strength, the ones in FFXVI are mages. If you’re having trouble with Pandemonium, here’s a quick overview of what you need to know to defeat it.

FF16 Pandemonium strategy, tips & tricks

There’s only one rule you should remember in your fight with Pandemonium: do NOT get hit by any of its spells. The big laser will kill you, and the fireballs will constantly hit you, never allowing you to recover. It doesn’t matter how overleveled you are, its attacks are instant game overs.

There are a couple of things you can do to ensure your survival. For example, you can equip Shiva for access to Cold Snap. Ifrit’s Ignition is also a good escape move to use in a pinch (and it charges quickly, too). Pandemonium isn’t that quick anyway, so you shouldn’t, in theory, have any trouble seeing if it’s readying for an attack.

Pandemonium is most vulnerable when it’s using its magic. Once you dodge whatever it is it sends your way, move in close for the strike. You can also throw Garuda’s Aerial Blast whenever it’s charged. The field is small enough for the ability to hit Pandemonium wherever it is. It certainly helps that it likes to stay in one place to cast its spells!

Finally, and I know I say this in every guide, but if you find yourself unable to dodge more of its attacks, be sure you have an upgraded Will-o’-the-Wykes (Ifrit) on you. When up, it reduces any damage you take and nullifies four attacks. It cancels out when it takes those hits, of course, but if you manage to keep the ability up until it disappears on its own, it’s probably already changed enough for another proc.
