All job adjustments and new actions in FFXIV Dawntrail
With the addition of higher level (Level 90+) content in Dawntrail and two new DPS jobs, action adjustments have been made to most existing classes. New Level 90+ actions have also been added for each job. We've listed all of these below, according to each job, and categorized them in order by class (i.e. - Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS).
This section will be updated as the Dawntrail (7.X) expansion continues, so be sure to check back regularly!
Job | Changes Made & Actions Added |
Paladin | The second and third executions of Atonement have been changed to new actions with separate animations; Atonement will change to these actions, so input execution will remain the same A new action that can be executed after Blade of Valor has been added. |
Warrior | A new action, which can be executed after three executions of Fell Cleave or Decimate while Inner Release is active, has been added. A new action which can be executed after Primal Rend has been added. |
Dark Knight | A new action, which can be executed after three executions of Fell Cleave or Decimate while Inner Release is active, has been added. A new action can be executed after Primal Rend has been added. |
Gunbreaker | A new action that can be executed after Fated Circle (via Continuation) has been added. A new three-step combo that can be executed after Bloodfest has been added (no cartridge cost). |
Monk | Basic combo mechanics no longer center around maintaining a buff or damage over time; instead, performing actions in a certain order will increase the next action's potency. Can accumulate up to a total of ten chakra while Brotherhood is active; this is to prevent chakra overflow. |
Dragoon | To reduce positional requirements for the single-target combo, the fifth combo action has been changed to a new non-direction action, Drakesbane. Fang and Claw/Wheeling Thrust will change to Drakesbane, so input execution will remain the same. To facilitate maximum damage output at the beginning of a battle, Life of the Dragon will be available without accumulating Dragon Gauge. |
Ninja | Huton's effect has been moved to a trait and will always be active. Furthermore, Huton will be changed to an AoE attack which grants the effect of 'Hidden'. Actions that extend the duration of Huton's effect will be adjusted in accordance with the above change. |
Samurai | To simplify recast management, Tsubame-gaeshi has been changed to be executable after Meikyo Shisui. Hakaze, Tenka Goken, and Midare Setsugekka have been upgraded into new actions. |
Reaper | Plentiful Harvest's effect will no longer increase the Shroud Gauge by 50 and instead will allow the execution of Enshroud. It can now be used when the gauge is at 51 or more without waste. A new action that can be executed while Enshrouded has been added. |
| |
Viper | A fast-paced job that fluidly shifts between dual-blade and double-bladed strikes in their various combos and abilities. Has a similar number of actions as other jobs, but is designed so that fewer actions need to be set on the hotbar. |
Bard | Mage's Ballad, Army's Paeon, and the Wanderer's Minuet are changed into buffing actions that do not attack enemies. Pitch Perfect is changed into an AoE attack for ease of use in encounters with multiple enemies. |
Machinist | Plentiful Harvest's effect will no longer increase the Shroud Gauge by 50, and instead will allow the execution of Enshroud. It can now be used when the gauge is at 51 or more without waste. A new action that can be executed while Enshrouded has been added. |
Dancer | Plentiful Harvest's effect will no longer increase the Shroud Gauge by 50 and instead will allow the execution of Enshroud. It can now be used when the gauge is at 51 or more without waste. A new action that can be executed while Enshrouded has been added. |
Black Mage | Various adjustments have been made to streamline certain aspects of the job, such as restoring MP upon landing ice spells while Umbral Ice is active, instead of passively over time. A new action that repositions Ley Lines beneath the caster has been added. |
Summoner | Solar Bahamut, a new summon akin to Bahamut and Phoenix, has been added. A new action that can be executed after Searing Light has been added. |
Red Mage | Manafication no longer increases Black Mana and White Mana by 50 and instead allows the execution of enchanted swordplay actions without cost. It can now be executed when Mana is at 51 or more without waste. The AoE enchanted swordplay combo beginning with Enchanted Moulinet will now consume a total of 50 Black Mana and White Mana, similar to its single-target counterpart. |
Pictomancer | Prepares by painting a variety of motifs, then renders them to life to produce an assortment of effects. Renders multiple motifs to execute high-powered attacks. Capable of granting buffs to party and self. |
White Mage | A new action allowing the caster to quickly move forward has been added. A new AoE attack, which can be executed up to three times after Presence of Mind, has been added. |
Scholar | Seraphism, a new action that changes the caster's appearance and enhances healing magicks, has been added. A new AoE attack that can be executed after Chain Stratagem has been added. |
Astrologian | The card system is no longer random, and will instead simultaneously draw cards with offensive, defensive, and curative effects. Astrodyne has been removed in accordance with the discontinuation of astrosigns. |
Sage | Eukrasia now enhances Dyskrasia II into Eukrasian Dyskrasia, an AoE attack that deals damage over time to enemies within range. A new party buff, which heals nearby party members whenever the caster casts a spell, has been added. |
Aside from the official inclusion of Viper and Pictomancer among the ranks, there look to be some standout adjustments for this expansion. Dragoon steadily relinquishes positional requirements, Monk combos being repurposed for more actual damage than buffs, and Black Mage restoring more MP for even more damage output are just a few.
Astrologian gets yet another significant change to the purpose of its card system as well, being the infamous healing class that hasn't been put back together properly since the Stormblood expansion saw fit to break it. Nonetheless, this looks like a step in the right direction from the last questionable change to the job.
All class changes in FFXIV Dawntrail
Several changes to all three main classes (i.e. Tank, Healer, DPS) have been introduced for the Dawntrail expansion, to bring proper balance to all new job actions and subsequent adjustments to existing ones. We've listed those changes below, according to each class.
Class | Changes Made |
Tank | Rampart and job-exclusive 30% damage reduction abilities are upgraded at Level 90 and above. Reprisal's duration is increased to 15 seconds at Level 90 and above. |
Healer | Swiftcast's recast is reduced to 40 seconds at Level 90 and above. |
Melee DPS | Second Wind's healing potency is increased at Level 90 and above. Feint's duration is increased to 15 seconds at Level 90 and above. |
Physical Ranged DPS | Second Wind's healing potency is increased at Level 90 and above. Damage reduction of job-exclusive defensive abilities is increased to 15% at Level 90 and above. |
Magical Ranged DPS | Swiftcast's recast is reduced to 40 seconds at Level 90 and above. Addle's duration is increased to 15 seconds at Level 90 and above. |
As players rise past Level 90 and take on the biggest challenges the game has to offer thus far, these beneficial adjustments are sure to help make things easier in terms of combat. The decreased cooldown time on Swiftcast is especially welcome for healers and magical DPS alike. Getting those Raises off quicker in a pinch, or an extra attack in your rotation is paramount.
The increased duration of debuff attacks like Feint and Addle are also good improvements, as every bit of damage dealt in a difficult fight makes a big difference.
New Action Change Settings feature in FFXIV Dawntrail
A brand new feature in FFXIV's Dawntrail expansion called 'Action Change Settings' intends to help re-organize and de-clutter hotbars, especially for those who play on a console and/ or use controllers/gamepads.
Similar to systems used by other MMOs, players will have the option to change how action hotbar icons function, specifically when it comes to combo actions. Instead of a combo taking up multiple icon spaces on a hotbar, each icon replaces the other in sequence on a single space.
This feature can be found by going to the 'Actions & Traits' submenu on the in-game dashboard, and then to 'Actions'. There will be an 'Action Change settings' option for certain actions available to toggle on or off.
That concludes our guide to all FFXIV job changes and new actions in Dawntrail. We hope you found this helpful, and let us know which adjustments or additions you are most excited to see.
