Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most popular MMO games on Steam, consistently staying at the top 40 most-played games over the past few months. However, with the release of Steam’s new handheld platform, the Steam Deck, many are asking whether the game will run on Valve’s new console.
The short answer is yes, Final Fantasy XIV runs on Steam Deck. The impressive specifications of the Steam Deck mean that Final Fantasy XIV easily runs on the system. What’s more, when docked, the game works just like running it on a conventional PC.
Additionally, when using the Steam Deck as a handheld, Final Fantasy XIV’s built-in controller support allows you to adapt very easily. Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO designed with console players in mind, so the switch to handheld isn’t impossible.
However, one issue that may affect Final Fantasy XIV players on Steam Deck is connectivity. Final Fantasy XIV requires a constant and consistent online connection, as with all MMOs. If you’re relying on the wifi connection of the Steam Deck as a handheld, you may suffer while playing FFXIV. This means that for raid nights, it might be best to make sure you’ve docked your Steam Deck and are playing with a wired connection.
Other than this, the Steam Deck is more than up to the task of running Square Enix’s premier MMO. And especially for casual play, it may be an excellent option for kicking back and enjoying Limsa Lominsa while you relax on the couch.
