To help online players identify one another in Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix introduced a feature called Adventurer's Plate, which came bundled in the 6.1 Update along with a slew of other relatively minor patches.
Creating your own Plate couldn’t be easier. When you login for the first time after Plates were introduced, you should notice a green notification next to the Character menu (The small red buttons). Selecting this will reveal the Adventurer Plate and Portrait options.

You can include details such as your current class, jobs, as well as your favorite downtime activities. As you progress, you can unlock tools to personalize your Adventurer's Plate. Providing you have the right cosmetics, you can do things such as change the background color of the Plate, as well as amend your Warrior of Light's picture.
The idea behind the Adventurer's Plate is pretty straightforward. It is, in short, a small pop-up window that reveals a set amount of information about your character. This can be viewed by any other player, so long as they target you and go through the necessary steps.
