There are quite a few characters to choose from and recruit to your party in Fire Emblem Engage. It can get confusing or even overwhelming when trying to decide who the best are for you to choose. For that reason, we ranked all of the Engage characters you can have in your party, from best to worst! How does it line up with your own tier list?
Who are the best characters in Fire Emblem Engage?
Deciding which characters are the best in any game can be quite controversial. This is because, in reality, the best characters are a subjective list. Every player and Fire Emblem Engage fan will have different opinions on who is the best and why. With that in mind, we chose to take our own gameplay into account, as well as community opinions. Not only are characters able to ranked on their own attributes, but also how they fall into the party with other characters.

Best S-Tier Characters in Fire Emblem Engage
Anna
When it comes to strength, it's hard to beat Anna. She is boosted across all fronts, making her a great addition early on. You'll want to segue her into a Sage role as she levels up after getting a Master Seal. This is where she will be extremely useful.
Ivy
In addition to possessing impressive stats, Ivy works well in two different roles. You can use Ivy as a Sage, in which she will perform at an A-tier level of proficiency. This is still pretty good, but not as much as when you give Ivy the role of Lindwurm. Doing this puts her as a top performer within any party.
Chloé
There is one weakness with Chloé, and that's her strength. You can remedy this by assigning her to Energy Drop and placing her on Wyvern (once you get the opportunity). Chloé is easy to overlook when building your lineup, but she quickly moves on to be a staple that you can't live without. Her speed and quick attacks will come in handy time and time again.
Best A-Tier Characters in Fire Emblem Engage
Citrinne
There's nothing necessarily wrong with Citrinne as a party member for battle. It's just that what she can do as a magic user, other characters can do better. She's a good party member if you want her to fit in your lineup, but she's not useful if you try to have the best of the best. She's great as a Sage, just not the best.
Diamant
If you're looking for a character to experiment with, Diamant is ideal. While he is not the best of the best, his forte is his versatility. Diamant has even stats, making him an optimal choice for any role. He won't necessarily do the best job in any role, but he makes a great fill in if you miss a piece in your party.
Kagetsu
As an offensive member of your party, Kagetsu is a solid addition. He won't disappoint, especially if you utilize his strength with weaponry. Put Kagetsu in the Hero role to open up lances and axes for him to use, which will make him an A-tier character.
Best B-Tier Characters in Fire Emblem Engage
Amber
While Amber can be a useful addition to any party with his base stats, he runs into a wall with his growth. Namely, his speed. Amber only has a speed growth of 30%, which really holds him back. He really could be an A or S-Tier character without this holdup.
Vander
We've assigned Vander to the B-tier because of his lack of longevity. He's one of the best characters early on in gameplay, even being S-tier during this period. The problem is that his stat progression is unimpressive. After playing Engage for a while, you'll have much better characters to choose from.
Best C-Tier Characters in Fire Emblem Engage
Panette
Panette is mostly a B-tier character with some great attributes compared to all other characters. But she falls behind on speed in a major way. Even when you have her as a Griffin Rider, her speed growth is still 45%. You're better off with many of the characters in the above tiers.
Veyle
There's not really much that is wrong with Veyle, other than just being a run-of-the-mill fighter an having unfavorable acquisition circumstances. You can't play with Veyle until after Chapter 22, making her useless to focus on for much of the gameplay in Engage.
Best D-Tier Characters in Fire Emblem Engage
Jean
Regarding the base stats of all fighters, it's clear Jean has the worst to offer in Engage. There are so many characters that outpace him in all areas. Pandreo has the exact same capabilities as a High Priest that Jean does, only tons better. You're better off skipping Jean, unless you just plan to use him in your party as a placeholder.
Saphir
In addition to having unimpressive stats, Saphir runs into the same issue that Veyle does. You can't recruit Saphir until Chapter 19, which is really late in the game. This makes her not worth focusing on, especially with her weak (in comparison to other characters) attributes.
