Outside of combat, there are numerous activities to enjoy in Fire Emblem Engage. Most of these are done while in Somniel, but some can be done elsewhere while exploring. How to get animals in Fire Emblem Engage
To adopt animals and get pets in Fire Emblem Engage, you will first need to unlock the Farmyard. This occurs after you complete Chapter 4 and will add this location to Somniel. This will let you get pets during the exploration phase after each chapter.

To collect animals for your Farmyard, simply find animals during this phase and interact with them. If they are willing to be adopted, you can then take them back to Somniel. Some animals will not be able to be adopted until you raise your relationship with the various countries of Fire Emblem Engage.
How to increase relationships with other countries in Fire Emblem Engage
To increase your relationships with countries in Fire Emblem Engage, you must go to the cafe in Somniel. Here you will find the Bulletin Board. Interact with this and donate resources and gold. This will raise your relationship with that country and let you adopt more animals.
What do pets do in Fire Emblem Engage?
Animals provide a few bonuses and features in Fire Emblem Engage. The main draw is collecting items from animals after completing a chapter. Different types of animals will give you different rewards. You can also interact with them and have them pose for you.
